Maybe I'm missing something but other than using widgets when the phone is locked, what purpose does the Today view serve when you can add widgets to any screen? Do you have a special use for Today? I have weather, agenda items and to-dos. Now I can add weather to home screen but seems redundant.

As an option for those who don't really want to have widgets on their Home Screen and would want to have them all in one place it makes sense. Being accessible from the Lock Screen is another aspect of it. Plus plenty of apps still have older widgets that can only be added and used there.

Yeah, I noticed that. The iOS calendar app widget (agenda style) shows far fewer days worth of stuff than my 3rd party widget. I guess I'll keep the widgets to one screen for now since I like the 10-rows-of-events view. I like the idea of the new widgets but will have to wait for something new that changes how I use them.

When all the old style widgets you use are replaced with iOS 14 ones, you won't need the Today/Widget screen any more.

So you'll be angry when you swipe too far left and, if you're like most people on here, angry when you swipe too far right and end up on the App Library :)

I still like it. I will keep larger widgets there, news, sports scores, maybe calender so anyone peaking at my phone isn't all up in my business, etc. and you can scroll vertically so you wouldn't need to take up multiple home pages. You have easier access to info swiping left or right, than multiple rights. swipe too far left? just swipe up to go to first home page (or hit home button if you still have one).

You bring up a good point. The Today view is basically unlimited (vertical) space.

I couldn't edit where the widgets where to go under the apps i had in today's view. those apps also had to stay together and couldn't be seperated. this will take some getting used to.

Another thing I realized...I'm still on an 6s. Smaller screen compared to today's iPhones. Widgets sound nice but I can't have them dominating my Home screen. I don't have the real estate for that.
