This excellent computer comes with the state of the art M4 chip, 16 GB of RAM, a nice 24" screen, four ports, and fun color matched keyboards, a quality camera system and speaker system, and a mouse. Amazon is selling it for $1,571 right now.

Apple also sells a 27" display, with the exact same screen technology and resolution as the iMac, with the exact same camera, and comparable speakers... but without the computer, keyboard or mouse, for $1,599. Amazon may sell it eventually for $1,499 or $1,399 - but even at those prices, the computer is not included.

M series iMac owners have made excellent purchases that will serve them will over the years.

Right you are! The iMac is not only the best value in any Apple product, it is LITERALLY the best product Apple has. Amazing form factor, gorgeous design, and it is truly timeless.

The Studio Display and XDR are the worst value for monitors as they come. The Mac mini fans will claim a Mac mini + some cheapo monitor is superior. Anyone with taste strongly disagrees.

Adelphos, for your commitment to the effort, I now promote you to Sergeant Major of the iMac army! From the G3 to the M4, we will win this war!

I think one big reason why many people stick with a Mini and cheap monitor is the same reason I do - I need to plug a Windows laptop in for work (I also have a Steam Deck plugged in to my monitor). Would love an iMac but would need a second monitor for other devices. I’d pay more for the iMac if Apple allowed it to be used as an external monitor, but that will never happen.

Given that I spend more time using my Windows laptop to work than my Mac for no-work stuff, I’d be left with the iMac screen switched off most of the time.

The iMac would be a tremendous value if it could act as a monitor to plug a laptop into. Not only would it be great to use as a "docking station", it would be environmentally better if it could be used as a monitor after the computer ages out.
