phones are serious business
Anyone who walks into a store where the salespeople get commission for selling is going to get the same experience. The moral of the story is to do some research before spending your money.
Sure. But you also have to realize that this is a pretty expensive phone to have. Minimum cost of service is just under $1700 for the two year contract. Plus the cost of the phone (From $99-299). So between $1800 and $2000 over the course of two years. That isn't exactly cheap. So while it isn't "serious business" it certainly is to some people. What isn't serious to you very well could be to someone else.
My point stretches much further than just "phones." It's the general idea that a salesman should be helping you. Not conning you or lying to you so that your idea of a product is based on false claims. Keep that in mind.
As an employee of a company, especially one that deals with the customers or potential customers, you are the face people see when they talk to the company. That means they should be ethical. Otherwise the perception of the company suffers.
Take for example what's happening on this forum right now. Because of past experiences and encounters with people from various companies you have formed opinions. For better or worse. Isn't it in a company's best interest to be thought of in a positive light than a negative one?
Wouldn't you for example be happy if the company went out of it's way to make things easier for you? You're having difficulty with something, something is broken, whatever. Isn't your opinion of the company better when they help you? Or let's say they can't help, isn't your opinion on the company better when they admit they can't and have done everything they can?
This flame war that is happening between Verizon and AT&T is a prime example. For the foreseeable future I won't buy a Verizon product. Why? Because of the stupid tactics they're pulling in their commercials. Same reason I refuse to buy Head-On "Apply directly to the forehead." Not because it simply doesn't work, but because of the obnoxious commercial.
Maybe the general attitude that Verizon has towards iPhone users and AT&T is the reason Verizon salesmen are lying or giving false information about both the Droid and the iPhone/AT&T. When a company takes such a stance it is pretty clear to me that I want nothing to do with that company. You succeed by being better, not by belittling your competition, spreading lies and false accusations.
Face it. Verizon, AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile. The sooner they realize that what they actually are is in fact just a data pipe for people's phones the better off we'll be. When it comes down to providing a SERVICE for customers as opposed to a red state vs blue state knock-off in terms of commercials. This general black vs white, red vs blue, microsoft vs apple, bullcrap needs to end. No one service/device is going to be best for everyone. Again, you succeed by being better, not by belittling the competition. You treat your customers better, you provide them with valuable service that lets them do things, you gain mindshare and marketshare comes with it.
