Yeah, pay $1800 and get a 650m, which is the equivalent of a desktop 640, mind you. Which is a very low end card. Sorry, I guess I'm kidding myself; you are getting your money's worth

Or are you talking about the iMac with the 675mx? I mean sure, you can pay $2000 for a 660ti equivalent (mid-high range; not bad). Whatever floats your boat. Although, you could pay half the price and get much better performance and build your own PC. You'll always have the thinnest desktop computer, I guess. (If you can find a use for that)

if your only option is to buy apple notebooks, it gets costly as I noted, if you go for gaming machines you can get much more performance

still I wouldnt chose the 675mx, but the 680mx in the imac

Totally agree with you.
For less than 1300USD, he probably can get i7-3770K with GTX680.
Enough RAM, big HDD/SSD and hell maybe even multiple dvd drives.
If he decided to pay close to a mid Mac Pro (3000~3500), he could get
i7-3970X with 2x GTX680 SLI. Maybe even water cooled.

Paying 1000+ for just gaming is totally not worth it.

really depends on the pov. And necessarily desktops are going to be more cost efficient, thats why I said a mobile gpu, not a desktop one.

that still doesnt dismiss the fact that for 1119 you can get a 670mx in a notebook

Why spend more money for something less suited for gaming when you can spend less and get much better performance.

Hell, you could spend ~$700 on a build and still have enough money left over for a decent laptop

again depends on the pov, never saw the idea of more than 1 pc as something useful, i go for 13 mostly pcs
