8-10 million is what the market is expecting. Last year it was 4 million. Because of market expectations, if it's less than 8 million the stock will likely go down. If it's more, it will likely go up. If it's between 8-10 million it will likely do whatever the market does tomorrow.

Lines were longer on Friday, and at least anecdotally, appeared shorter on Saturday and today. I think it's because they didn't do the reservation system like they did last year. However, the lines were also shorter during the iPad launch this year than last, and they sold twice as many.

My guess is 9 million. Full disclosure: I own about 75 shares but obviously don't have any advance information (even if I did I couldn't do anything with it).

Do they include pre-orders that have not been shipped, and thus, credit card has not been charged yet?

That would make a huge difference.

My order, for example, for two iPhone 5's, is still back order status and the card has not been charged.

Under normal accounting rules, the sales will include only those pre-orders that were delivered to customers Friday or over the weekend. Realistically, Apple may include all units actually shipped since title usually transfers upon shipment. They won't include pre-orders that aren't shipped since title hasn't passed to the buyer. However, the important number is sales through this coming Saturday since that's the end of their fiscal year.

Hopefully at least 8 million for Apple's stock to go up.

Those of you saying <6 million are ridiculously off.

I'm gonna say a measly 50,000,000 units. Although I've heard it could sell anywhere from 50,000,000 to a nice round 175 million.

5 million only! *shockingly low*

supplies / components / screens issues / delays with sharp etc for real?

88% of iPhone sales go to existing iPhone users. Gonna top out eventually. That and the sentiment of disgust in the new phone and not an upgrade to those out of LTE markets.
