I reck it'd be like before text-to-speech where street names weren't given, they'll just be ommitted.

The write-up states celeb voices for the first time. My TomTom app has had Yoda's voice for sale for ages...... are they suggesting Yoda's not a celeb..... how dare they..... libelous!!!

I think they mean first time on the iPhone app, not "first time ever"?

. . . marking the first time a celebrity voice has ever been available for mobile phone based GPS . . .

Also how would the Yoda voice work - wouldn't that be confusing for most people?

"Right, you must turn now."
"Destination, 20.5 miles to."
"Highway 25, merge onto."

Ha.

No tom tom.. use the force!!

I Chewbacca volenteer to do the voice over..

"in 25 miles ARRRGGGHHH"

You can just tell by my happy/angry grunting, kinda like a "youre getting warmer/colder" game.

ARRHGHHGGG (turn left)

Is anyone else having issues with the app crashing after updating? I can't get passed the main splash screen. Tried hard restart and everything.

Weird.

So if you miss the turn does Homer yell, "Doh!" at you? :D (I don't think TomTom says anything when you miss a turn)

Anything would have to be better than Garmin's "Recalculating" which always sounds so exasperated like you're a moron for missing the road. But then I've had Garmin tell me to turn onto a bicycle trail/path (blocked by steel pillars) before and then keep wanting to send me in circles when I didn't wreck my car for it.... Doh!

Ah, so they've finally figured out how to milk their existing customers for more money.

Considering TomTom have provided users with FREE quarterly map updates I think a little DLC is justified on their part. They also brought in Street Cameras on this update too.

That is pretty cool. Kind of looks like they will pull any kind of gimmick to get more customers. They're running out of ways to grow...and I don't find Homer to be exceptionally qualified to direct me! :p

I don't see free updates beyond the first year on Sony's new head units that use TomTom. I wish they did. Map updates are expensive and one year means nothing since few changes will occur in a single year. But 3 years later your maps will have many errors.

It's just the same, just as Apple's been doing since the introduction of the 1st iPhone...... I'll probably still get it as soon as it;s in the UK though! :D

And that's precisely why Apple does not need to release a product with every feature in it in v1. People will buy it anyway. Making a product that people will buy is their goal. Not satisfying 1% of the complainers who think it needs more. If it doesn't have the features the customer wants, then they should wait. But they can't complain if they would buy it anyway.
