Surprised nothing more has been said about this. I use it and definitely makes me NOT regret getting the 32 GB iPad 2 instead of the originally reserved 64 GB. Forget iDisk or Dropbox when you have your entire computer's files at easy access. I leave my computer on all the time anyway, so this definitely achieve what I want.

No idea if you can actually modify or save anything to your computer via Tonido though. I was simply looking for something that allows access to the files for viewing themselves (and my music for listening to!).

Really useful app, i'm using it!
It would be a lot better if Tonido server could play (or transcode on the fly) other video formats like avi or mkv with different codecs.

Can I use this app to access my computer outside of the home network? In other words, can I access my computer remotely via the internet?

Yep, that's a big deal. Guess I'll stick with StreamToMe/AirVideo for now. It's nice to have that transcoding engine for just about any type of media, and STM does audio as well. Then again, Tonido is free...but the others are cheap, around $3 or $4 each. Skip a cup of coffee :)

I've been using Team Viewer for this purpose, I access my office's computer from home's laptop or ipad, basically, the ipad/home computer became the actual office computer, it's really cool.

Yes. you can access your computer outside of the home network. The cool thing is you don't even need to open the ports. try it out :)

I have my DropBox mounted as a folder on my computer and had full ability to access it directly via Tonido! Sweet.

Wish we could upload any file, but I guess the iPad not having any file structure makes this a challenge.

It would be cool if we could copy and paste files on the remote computer though.

For example, say I'm on the go, want to move a file from my PC (via Tonido) to my DropBox, since DropBox is already mounted on my PC, all I have to do is copy and paste. Adding this to Tonido would be awesome.

Some flaws (mainly in the UI) but great app nonetheless and it works on my school's network so I'm happy.

I've been having issues playing movies through Tonido. It loads and looks to be buffering, then simply exits back out to the file explorer. It's a compatible movie type as well (.m4v)

Personal Cloud Server App Tonido Allows Unlimited Camera Uploads to Apple Devices

One of the most important features of public cloud services like Dropbox, iCloud etc is the ability to automatically upload photos and videos of the mobile devices without user intervention. This is a very convenient feature and knowing that your photos and videos are always tucked away in a safe location is a great feeling. Unfortunately, with the amount of photos and videos generated by the mobile devices, the storage size can balloon resulting in a) costly storage fee b) requiring constant management of images/videos to free up more space. Further, your personal photos are stored in a 3rd party server where your data privacy, security and ownership is a big question mark.

ALL that changes with Tonido, where you own your storage and is completely run and managed by you!
