I had posted a week ago or so that my wife and I upgraded our 12 Mini's to the iPhone 13. That's been a good upgrade. We ended up in the Apple store a few days ago and compared the 13 to the 13 Pro. My reason for not going with the pro originally was the weight difference, in person I could hardly tell side by side.

We were hoping to return the 13's and get the Pro's... but we already shipped back our trade in's to Apple and they are in processing. And of course one can't seem to find the Pro for a month which is well past the 14 day return period that ends this Friday, 10/8.

Seems like we are out of luck and lesson learned and wait as long as possible for trade in. I chatted with Apple last night and initially looked like they might be able to help me, but after 45 minutes I wasn't any further ahead.

Any creative ideas? Does Apple ever extend the return time frame? Lesson learned here, but wanted to see if anyone else has been in this position before and had any tips.

Thanks!

If you purchased through Apple.com, if you Initiate your return on 10/8/2021, you actually have additional 14 days for Apple to actually receive your item for a refund. So technically you have roughly 28 days. Only the apple store retail gives 14 days. Sometimes I hear that if you speak to the manager and be polite and all, they may be able allow an extension due to your circumstance.

I'd also check apple.com daily (if you can), I know last week, it's mainly the Pro Max that I saw replenish but not the pro models. I'd check till Friday and if nothing still how's up, then Friday night, initiate the return, which then should give you till 10/22/2021 for Apple to actually receive your return item. I'd send it maybe 2-3 days prior to 10/22/2021 (or even 4 days), as they may receive a lot and it may take a bit longer to process but once they receive it, it scan into their system so as long as they receive it before 10/22/2021 is fine.

Good luck

I did get from Apple.com. That's a great tip about the return time! Maybe during that time, maybe a couple of Pro's will come into stock. Do you know if I can bring the phones into a store to return on that 28th day or I'll just need to be sure they get mailed back before then.

I'm going to try the manager approach too, it can't hurt.

Thanks.

As for bringing it to the store for a return on 28th day, that will likely need Managers approval so that part you will need to talk to the manager. The 28th day is more referring to apple online orders returning via shipping (fedex) to their warehouses.

Thank you for this! I’m not the OP, but was searching for threads on the same situation. I actually got the Pro but want the regular 13 instead. None in stock and I gave my 12 to Apple when I picked up.

How come you're looking to go in the other direction?

It just feels so HEAVY. Coming from the 12 I was hesitant about jumping to the Pro but couldn’t resist with the promo Verizon had. But I’m a runner and it just feels like a dang brick in the pocket of my little shorts! I picked up my son’s regular 12 yesterday, which is even in a fairly protective case, and was like dang this feels like a feather! lol

I'm in a similar situation. Got the 13 Pro Max but want to exchange it for the smaller Pro but there's none in stock. Ive been checking Apple's site daily but no luck yet. Hopefully one pops up before my return period is up.

You could always buy an Apple Watch with cellular and keep your phone at home when you’re out on your runs

I was in a similar position as you, where I bought the regular pro on launch day and then wanted to return it for the max. Luckily I just got my hands on a 13 pro max today for in store pick up. I stalked the apple app everyday to see if one of was available.

I asked an apple employee what do I do If I can’t get a hold of a max before my 14 days are up? He told me they could just return and repurchase to extend the 14 days. I also asked if I could just hold onto the pro until I get the max in November and then trade in the pro? He said that couldn’t be done till the 14 iPhone comes out.

Your best bet is to get lucky in an Apple Store as long as your in your return window time frame...

This all worked out for us! We had a road trip last week to Michigan. On Tuesday night, a couple of Pro's became available outside of Cleveland. 256GB vs. the 128GB we needed, but I decided to get them. Last Friday, on the last return day - returned the regular 13's.

I did want to note that an employee in the Apple Store last week before this came together said they could do a return of the 13's which kept them out of stock and then they resell to you which gives you in essence another 14 days without having to mess with switching phones again. We didn't have to end up doing that but that would have been the path we would have taken.
