Hi My 2.66 Ghz Quad Core mac pro with 6 gbs of memory has 3.94 gb of memory that is being used and about 650 mb's of free memory. I had Iphoto open as well as a few folders, Itunes, Safari, Mail and Calendar. is that normal for a Mac Pro with 6 gigs of memory? Would adding more memory be necessary. Thanks

nothing is wrong. this is good! your Mac Pro is using your huge amounts of memory as an advantage. OS X loves RAM and is god at managing it http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1342.

Open Activity Monitor.app and you'll see something called "inactive memory". Its memory claimed by a program that isn't being used and its the same as free memory.

While your computer shows 4gb of ram "used", I bet that less than 1/2 of it is actually active.

Thanks for this link, I wasn't clear on how OS X manages memory until I read it. :)
