I too think you should buy a lotto ticket.....

(Waits for similar response.......)

Apple products are going to be increasingly difficult to repair. Have you seen the iFixit scores recently? I would never ever take an Apple product to any business except Apple directly.

I could get you a giant gummy bear depending on how many millions we win. Anything over 3 million (after taxes) and you got yourself a giant gummy bear coming to you.

Yeah... Lesson definitely learned. First and last time I ever gamble like that on a new product I actually care about.

Just walked out of the Apple store with a replacement Air (not refurbished) for $0. Since the update bricked my iPad, they couldn't do any diagnostic tests. They never asked about the glass or LCD. I'm really lucky that they didn't notice the screen replacement scratches and that my iPad was bricked. I buffed out some if the scratches with extra fine #0000 steel wool which really helped.

Anyway, I lucked out. If there was a hardware issue and the iPad still turned on, they would have noticed the repair problems. I was in and out of the store in 10 minutes.

Wow what a way to juke the system lol

Just an FYI - the geniuses will always say they're new, but they are actually refurbs (well, "remanufactured").

Correct and refurbs look new as they get a new outer casing and battery. Either way the OP was lucky and got a heck of a deal.

I just read this entire thread.

i would have gone to small cams court and be done with it by now. Almost certainly the repair shop is nOT going to even show up and you will win a default judgment.

Be sure and ask for compensation for all of your costs including driving to and from the shop. and the cost to file the claim and postage on letters you sent and so on.

And yes don't wait post reviews on Yelp and where ever else you can. No threats to do so just do it.

may have missed it since I just sorta scanned the thread but weren't they suspicious what with you wearing a mask and all...you did wear a mask didn't you?

When I took my Mac to the Apple store all I heard around me were lines like "Your phone has water damage, I can replace your phone for $300", "Your laptop has water damage, we can try and repair it but it;s going to cost $500", and so on.

I was amazed at how many people had water damage to their phone. At that point I realised how hard it would suck to be a Genius working at Apple.

BUT, if you took your iPad into Apple and said you broke it while trying to replace the screen they would give you their flat replacement fee. You may receive a reconditioned unit but it will be better than what you have.

I think as others have said, you pay a bit more but it's worth the hassle you've gone through.

If I was to tell you, buddy, spend $300 and have it repaired once, OR spend $100 and have a busted iPad. Which would you go for?
