About the idiots who are calling Sarah an evil mother? It’s wrong on so many levels that you trying to advocate for these geniuses makes you one of them. Additionally, Sarah is the matriarch of my people, so besides this being a stupid game, it’s also an anti-Semitic hack. But that’s too subtle for you to understand.

I am not a gamer so haven’t played any of the games on the list but I found it baffling that Playdead INSIDE is not included! It’s the only game I’ve downloaded in 2017 but it’s just the best game I’ve ever played on an iPhone.

Witness looks like it could be good.

BUT...... And please don't "Hate on me" when I ask this question.

It's 2017 / 2018 now.... Why, for the love of God are so many games so embarrassing on iPhones, and other mobile devices STILL.

Yes, I fully appreciate old Nokia phones has Snake, Very early smart phones had limited CPU and GPU power, but we're way way past that.

We're still seeing game upon game upon game getting churned out, that would be what one may expect from something like an old Sega Megadrive, and way worse than a PS2.

I see Apple on stage demoing something jaw dropping, and thinking to myself. Ok, now that's amazing, games from now on are going to be stunning, and then we get flappy bird!

I can appreciate screen sizes are small, and perhaps there is a market for some very VERY simple games you can pick up for 5 mins on the bus.

But still, sweet Jesus, how many years, if ever will it take for games of the quality of Xbox 360 and PS3 to consistantly be released on mobile devices?

Nintendo are managing to do this with the Switch, and I presume the latest Apple products, with METAL are around the same power as the Switch?

Am I alone with this viewpoint ?

Console games cost $60.

Most iOS games cost $2.

Which would you invest more time and money into making it look awesome as a developer?

It’s a video game, it very clearly says it’s only loosely based on the Bible, and it’s not for children. The forums aren’t your soapbox, please keep the complaining on twitter.

You are certainly not alone. But the ecosystem does make sense, no? Simple games are easy/cheap to develop, easy to play, and serve well as time-fillers for the non-gaming crowd.

For the "serious mobile gamers" - I call out this category as people who spend good amount of time on mobile gaming, are willing to pay more than a dollar or two that cheap games cost, but not quite as ardent as console gamers are, if that makes sense. I would say I belong to this category. And there are tons of games out there, in possibly every genre, to keep this crowd happy. (Though really head-scratcher puzzlers are few and far)

And then there are the "hard-core mobile gamers". They push they envelop of gaming, wherever they play. I suppose you feel that this is the crowd that is not adequately catered to? The reasons are a combination of this being a small market, it's tough for a mobile device to truly compete with a console experience, and consequently, not enough pay-back for the developers - not because these gamers aren't willing to pay, but mostly because the market size is too small. This segment is seeing an uptick, mostly with ports. But you are right that if there is someone who travels a lot and wants a deep experience on a mobile device - there would be very few options.

Played it on PC, but yeah, it’s a great game! Check out Limbo which is made my the same people and is a very similar game.

I haven’t really been keeping up on iOS gaming as the Switch/PS4/PC have been taking up all my time. I’ll have to get to some of these. I do play Fire Emblem Heroes that’s in the list though, which is fun to keep up with everyday.

As far as Console gaming goes on the iPad, I realize I don’t really need it. I got my other systems for that. Mobile does have some awesome indies to play.

As said, it’s mostly down to the freemium model that milllions and millions and millions of people happily use every day. Devs are making more money by churning out cutesy games stuffed full of iap’s then a tripple AAA game on console!
I’m thankful for people like Ferrel who launch full priced games, 7 to 10 pounds up front is fine by me, it is said you never finish Real Racing 3 unless you spends hundreds of real money on it, even people who have been playing the game for years have given up on it because of IAP.
Or look at Candy Crush, I know a few who play that and it’s entirely IAP based.

I would also argue Apples hardware isn’t quite as powerful as you think, we have some pretty stunnning games yes, but the Switch can run DOOM...

Just my thoughts on it.

I like my racers, RR3 have some wonderful speed and handling characteristics, but the vicious endless barrage of spending real money, I mean £100 for one in game car! Has put me off it for good which is a shame.
I like shooters but again all IAP based, and I like strategy games, which although IAP it’s not too bad but this year my vote goes to Iron Marines.

I would love to see Starcraft on iOS, sadly it won’t happen, it will end up a full IAP spin off like Hearthstone if we ever get it...

The Witness looks amazing. I think the game deserves a full Mac/PC experience instead of a somewhat crippled iOS version (though that being said, it might suit the portability nature of iOS better). Decisions!

Do you feel there COULD be a market for a very casual gamer, that does not wish to spend money on a Console.
They have their iPhone, Perhaps they have an iPad.
They come home, place the iPhone on it's charging dock, and can carry on enjoying their game on their TV screen, running form the phone, with perhaps a nicer physical Apple controller?

I'm sure Apple could create this as a realistic scenario.

Wrong, most mobile games are free with in app purchases and it’s a proven fact this model makes massive profits, more then any premium game title on console or PC.
Why do you think they’ve been trying to introduce IAPs in aaa games like Battlefront 2, which EA has had to remove from the game after massive fallout from its fans, or Call Of Duty and Forza 7 that have IAPs for cosmetic changes to your gun or driver.
The freemium or IAP business model is one many are desperate to copy and bring into the premium games market because it’s so massively lucrative..
I think COD has the idea that if you get **** by someone and you like their gun, you can buy it there and then if you want.. or it’s an idea it’s working on...

I don’t think it’s a market they are interested in, why would they be? They are all making billions from the market they already have all based on IAPs, Apple gets 30% of every IAP purchase made don’t forget.

You’re describing the Nintendo Switch.

A PS3 title is $60. A $5 iPhone title is considered pricey. There’s the answer.
Wrong, most PS4 games sell between 20-30€/$. PS3 games are selling out for even less right now due to the consoles cycle ending.
Let alone the used marked where you can get a game for 10-20 and then sell it for a similar amount to drop your actual expenses close to zero.

^^ Thanks to you both for confirming what I was feeling.

I just feel the hardware now is so fantastic, but sadly the software is just not taking advantage of it.

I'd actually love Apple to make a Dock, and perhaps a hand controller, so it could have something like the switch.
Come home, dock your iPhone to your TV and play games via the iPhone, charging the iPhone via a dock at the same time.

So , basically you want

lightning to hdmi cable 40$ https://www.apple.com/shop/product/MD826AM/A/lightning-digital-av-adapter

and a

MFi Gamepad 40$ https://www.apple.com/shop/product/...me-controller-with-minecraft-apple-tv-edition

which leaves us with one question .... what we gonna do with them portrait oriented games ?

Nope. The story of Isaac originates in the Old Testament, but it also transcends to the New Testament, and to the Quran, so the story is revered in Judaism, Christianity, and Muslim religions. If it's targeting one of the religions, it's targeting all three.

When the average selling price of an iOS game is in the 50$ to 80$ range. Or when these games can be back-ported to the iOS platform at minimal expense.

Whichever comes first. But really, the second scenario is the most likely.
