I’d like to the see rumours of a iPhone SE coming next year instead of 2025 being true. Hopefully it comes with 128GB of base storage and nothing less.

Or you could get a brand new iPhone 13 from Apple right now, which is 120$ more expensive than a current 128 GB SE 2022.

Seems like late January with all the OS’s getting their next incremental update to the Public would be the perfect launch date for more M3 devices (Macs and IPad). Last year Apple released the M2 MBP’s and Mac Mini, so this year it should be M3 MBA‘s, M3 Mac Mini‘s and M3 IPad Pros.

Happy Holidays

Personally, I’m eyeing the new 13 in iPad Pro to replace my 12.9 Pro. I’d need to see some performance specs and hands on before being able to evaluate the 12.9 Air.
Problem for me is that the 13 in Pro is way overkill and too pricey. It's difficult to justify the expense. At least for now...

I recently learned that the display tech in these new OLED screens used in the upcoming iPad Pro likely uses a new technique that Samsung has developed to make the blue backlight more resilient which is what often fails first on OLEDs and causes backlight burn in.

Thanks goes to Universal Display who has worked on this for many, many years. Samsung will be the initial OEM beneficiary because Sam has put more effort into PHOLED and jointly worked with UD. Apple surely will not be far behind as this is a real breakthru. Link:

I get that it is hard to please everyone, for there really wasn't a good reason to remove the fan or make the ATV4K3 smaller.

The fan on the ATV4K1 and ATV4K2 was so quiet, so not like anyone can hear it. I am sure that a lot of people had no idea there was a fan in the ATVs.

The only reasons I can think to do it is to make the device smaller and lighter (which is silly, and now it is too light that a heavy HDMI cable moves the device), make it more energy efficient (not like the older ATVs were power hogs), or to make it cheaper (sounds like Apple, but how much are they really saving from not having a fan).

So, now it thermal throttles from games that the A12 in the ATV4K2 plays fine. Sad that the A12 is outperforming the much newer and faster A15 in the ATVs.

Oh yeah, it isn't just games that are causing the ATV4K3 to thermal throttle, the ATV4K3 is thermal throttling on Plex as well. It looks like it is a SW issue that Plex is working on, but the issue also impacts the A12 and A10X in the older ATV4Ks, but since they have a fan, the user would never know, because the playback is perfect.
You would think that Apple did internal testing with various games and other apps on the ATV4K3 that would’ve shown a thermal throttling issue during development?!? The ATV4K3 will probably end up being on sale for at least 18-24 months if not longer and that’s a long time to keep a product with a serious issue on the market.

I’m hoping the iPhone 16 Pro gets a redesign even if it’s just a different looking camera cluster. I would like to get an iPad mini 7 if the rumor is true that the jelly scrolling is now only evident in landscape mode. Finally, the Apple Watch Series X/10 may be on my shopping list depending on how much I like the rumored redesign. It would be a nice upgrade from my AW Series 7. I wonder if the oxygen sensor will be a part of the watch.

I look forward to everything upgraded with USB-C: trackpad 4, magic keyboard (what would that be, generation 4), magsafe battery pack coming back with USB-C (gen 2)...

I understand the reasons for Vision Pro not being at the top of the list, but in like five years, the phrase "it's not for everyone" will hopefully sound especially shortsighted :)
None of these products are for everyone, but saying “It’s prohibitally expensive at $3500”? I paid $7k in the early 90s for a MacIIX…and there was a wait list! It had about 5% of the VisionPro capability for twice the price…in the 1990s! Either people have become extraordinarily cheap, or several folks here have got it all wrong. I’m betting the latter….as i’ve done for decades with my stock purchases. But I could be wrong.

Whatever Apple does with GenAI will be the most interesting they do in 2024.
Apple doesn't seem to be doing much with GenAI. Where are the papers, patents, etc? The other big tech companies seem to be far more active

Seems like they’re working on it, just not publicizing it.

Why would they make a more expensive AirPod with active noise cancellation when they already have a more expensive AirPod Pro with active noise cancellation? Makes no sense the add another model.
There are various possible scenarios:

1. The rumors mixed up a new release for both the AirPods and the AirPods Pro.
2. Apple will remove the „Pro“ moniker from the flavour with ANC.
3. The non-Pro AirPods will have a lesser ANC (but can still tick an important checkbox).
4. The Pro‘s will get additional features (such as e.g. ear thermometer or other health-related sensors).
4a. Having another model with „only“ ANC in the portfolio allows Apple to raise the price for the new highend AirPods Pro.

Yes, the VisionPro may become that product, but not at $4,000+ (after taxes: even more with Rx lenses and AppleCare+). The buy-in at this juncture is just too steep for market penetration at the levels of the phone, tablet or computer. It will really have to come WAY down in price to achieve that.
AFAIK the price is not yet officially confirmed. So it may still change and the VisionPro coming on offer way below that price point.

And as the comparison to the original iPhone has also been made: That one saw a price reduction very shortly after it had been introduced. IIRC quite some buyers even got a refund for the price difference.

The full feature set is also not completely known outside of Apple. If it could - for example - replace a 77“ (or bigger) OLED TV, the price point is suddenly way less intimidating, as such an OLED TV still costs a solid 4-digit price, takes a huge amount of space and power and has a potentially inferior feature set. And yes, I’m aware that it is case-dependent (e.g. single viewer).

And to those referring to the weight, short battery time and possibly ugly look (though beauty is in the eye of the beholder): This gen 1 device is NOT mentioned for commuting or shopping or taking it on a stroll in the park. It’s a device meant for home use, where a power outlet is always available.

It’s a device to build up the hype and allow Apple to collect experiences with this product category, so they know which points to touch and develop further for Gen2, Gen3, Gen4 …

In a few years such a device may fit into a slightly bulky sunglasses frame. That may require new technology, but we don't know if such new tech isn’t already around somewhere in Apple Labs and just still too pricey for mass production.

After all, what will be released soon, is based on tech available a few years ago, when development on this thing started.

Pricing and Availability
Apple Vision Pro starts at $3,499 (U.S.), and will be available early next year on apple.com and at Apple Store locations in the U.S., with more countries coming later next year. Customers will be able to learn about, experience, and personalize their fit for Vision Pro at Apple Store locations. For more information about Vision Pro, visit apple.com/apple-vision-pro.
This cost likely doesn't include the cost of optionally adding corrective lens for prospectives who use prescription glasses.

At the announcement, Tim Cook himself said, live, "starting at $3,499." I'll take his word for it. But you make great points about the possibilities. But as described so far, there are a LOT of drawbacks beyond just the price.

Where I see the potential future of this device is in the medical field, specifically for "vision" impaired individuals. It may not be an Apple headset, but someone is going to change the world for them using similar tech! It could be to eyesight what the Cochlear implant is to hearing.

Why does this have to be always hardware related? Evolve the OS's to incorporate new functionality such as improved digital assistants such as Siri. Products are sometimes only good as the OS that they run you know. ;)
Because the OS updates are always so meh that they don't even come close to beating out the hardware updates. Every macOS update incrementally REMOVES functionality!!!
