And I should have tendered my congratulations to @maflynn; very well done, and congrats. Karate black belt and 40,000 posts in the one year……..

Ouch, that is putting it up to the rest of us. But very well done - this is a very productive year for you.

Anyway, that is a serious and most impressive total. One that the rest of us have no hope, whatsoever, of ever, ever approaching, let alone exceeding….

Wow, I've been on the forums a lot less these past 6 months and yet I'm still posting up a storm. That surprises quite a bit.

Great work Q, as always.
we have different definitions of "a lot less" haha. I remember on some 6 month spans years ago, I was posting over 3k posts. 100 this go around is life support.

I am amazed at how many people who had posted ALOT just dropped dead off the site. I feel I have but I still check it and post on occasions

These past 6 months, I've only been online during the very early mornings and mostly inactive during the weekends. Prior to that I was online during the weekend and I was posting on and off during the day.

If I'm swamped at work, I'm less likely to post, but by the same token, if I'm working late like I am now, I post more - kind of odd. I'm online working now but its mostly hurry up and wait. I run some scripts or do a task, then I wait for the developer. So while waiting I'm in here :D

Thank you for noticing :)

I knew I was getting close a few days ago but I didn't think I'd get beyond the threshold until next week

Well, to be quite honest, if it had not been for @Doctor Q drawing our attention to this exceedingly impressive total, I doubt that I would have noticed it.

However, I do remember the work you put into achieving and the subsequent awarding of your karate black belt; that is a seriously impressive achievement, and one that I marvel at, and would love (in my dream world) to emulate.

Seriously, life and other priorities - both personal and professional - may well intrude.

I remember after I had been asked to travel abroad at short notice around seven years ago, hardly posting for the best part of six months; life just got too busy, and other demands ate into my time.

40,000 posts! Holy cow!

Not only that. Our comrade, @maflynn, actually leads a full and active and fulfilling life, somewhat akin to a Renaissance Man.

He has a job, a family, a karate black belt. (Yes, that did impress me; not easy on top of everything else). And he has his fitness regimen. And that is not even making a passing, fleeting reference to those stratospherically unattainable 40,000 posts…..

I would't go as far as to say that I'm a Renaissance man, that bar is held too high, I am no where near as talented or as driven as Leonardo da Vinci.

I often thought I don't have much of an outside life, but as you mentioned I'm quite active in both, yet with all that is going on I still carve out time for my kids :D

Well, the term 'Renaissance Man' tends to be used to describe a multi-faceted individual, not necessarily Leonardo (who didn't, in any case, have too much by way of family commitments).

In any case, I certainly think that you have the question of an intelligent work-life balance well sussed out, and you seem to be able to lead a richly lived life in a number of dimensions, balancing them all, where one does not predominate at the expense of the others, or, (as with the impressive achievement of the award of the black belt) is only allowed to do so briefly. That is no mean achievement.

I am still alive Though the front page and my new Macbook Pro don't generate a lot of interesting discussion worth talking about.
