You need a 200 place listing as the The Princess Bride totally owns places 1-100.

Aliens, Top Gun, and FBDO would be #101-103 respectively.

:D

Nearly 60 posts in this thread and no one has mentioned the greatness of Jack Burton?!? :p

Also, +1 for Howard the Duck!

^^dude I had to hit the search 2 times just to be sure, lol! I remember walking around my parents place as a kid with lamp shades on my head pretending to be the lightning guy's.

Out of Rosenheim (1987), aka in the USA as Bagdad Cafe.
Marianne Sägebrecht was an absolute delight in this one-- hubba hubba! (I talked about this one in a previous thread, in fact.)

Ferris Beuller's Day Off is mine. Perfect feel good film from start to finish.
Brilliant. This is my pick for best 80's teen comedy, and perhaps 80's comedy in general.
Speaking of funky electronic music, I love the inclusion of Sigue Sigue Sputnik's "Love Missile F1-11" in the intro scene. I have that SSS album; in fact, I bought it before I saw the movie.

Some other faves for me:

Ghostbusters

The Terminator

Bladerunner would be at the top of my list.

Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan
(Best TOS-cast Trek movie, by far.)

I'll add a couple of my own, both independent "cult" horror films:
The Re-Animator (Jeffrey Combs at his creepy best)
Evil Dead 2: Dead By Dawn
NOTE: If you've ever wondered where our esteemed MR admin xUKHCx got the "staring skull" avatar, it's from the poster art for Evil Dead 2. It's one of those tongue-in-cheek horror films you can laugh at, and Bruce Campbell totally hams it up. A bit of Useless Trivia: The "Hello, Lover" that is used by LaTour in their early 90s one-hit-wonder "People Are Still Having Sex" comes from this movie.

80's? Hell, 1982 was probably the best year for movies in a long while:

  • Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan
  • The Road Warrior
  • Conan the Barbarian
  • Blade Runner
  • TRON
  • Poltergeist
  • E.T. (yah, it's a sappy movie made for kids, but it's this generation's Old Yeller - you still cry!
  • Evil Dead
  • The Thing

Also, 1981 was the Year of the Wolf: American Werewolf In London, The Howling and Wolfen.

Those were the days...

Grace-Jones-2.jpg

"I grab him-- and I take him! TAKE him!!! "

Otherwise, yeah, you're right.

I never found her to be particularly attractive. In fact I found her to be utt bugly.

Though the best quote is from Conan the Barbarian.

Mongol General: Hao! Dai ye! We won again! This is good, but what is best in life?
Mongol: The open steppe, fleet horse, falcons at your wrist, and the wind in your hair.
Mongol General: Wrong! Conan! What is best in life?
Conan: To crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentation of their women.
