Not sure if anyone's picked up on this yet but [app]Top Gun[/app] is now available in the AppStore. Quite a neat little game, having you fly around shooting things, and cheap too, only £1.19. Obviously very tied into the film. 10 missions, the first of which is training, and the others unlockable as you progress. Although the controls are easy enough, using the accelerometer to steer and with guns lower left and missiles lower right, flying around is a bit of a pig's ear with the given view. It gets a bit busy on the screen. Accelerometer can be re-calibrated easily just by pausing the game. Targeting enemy planes isn't particularly challenging, you just wait to auto lock and then fire (up to four missiles at a time, if you're quick enough). The real challenge to this game is avoiding the Danger Zones, areas of the screen where there is an incoming missile, flak etc. You have to fly around to avoid these. You can take up to 8 direct hits, after which you have to eject and then redo the mission. There is no speed control, which makes for interesting times when trying to lock onto ships. Definitely one area for improvement. You're basically flat out all the time, with no need to worry about take off or landing. I've only had a quick go and it's quite fun (Takes my breath away? ), given the price.
