They either; prefer to be interrupted with whatever they were doing having to immediately answer a call or only use their expensive smartphone as a telephone or are here to troll.
Trolling is the only realistic option here. I use my phone a lot (about 1500mins a month) and yet I can't think of a single possible reason why a phonecall hijacking my whole screen is a good idea.

Compact phone call, when you actually trying to "minimise" the main function of a... phone.

Absolute trash UI in my opinion. I wish you could enable/disable this.

Reading the comments here over the last weeks it seems clear that the vast majority of people doesn’t want the phone app to take over the entire screen. Sure, you can do other things if you go back to home while on a call but why interrupt what the user was doing in the first place? It was time for a change in my opinion.

Seriously mate?

You really ask why? Well, maybe because a real person, with real feelings, with a real voice, with real things to tell you, a human being in other words is actually trying to reach you while you, in the first place, were just browsing instagram/Facebook. As if just being 100% with that person on the phone wasn't good enough. Given being on the phone doesn't match seeing each other, now people want a compact phone app so they can be even less present to the conversation.

No personal offense really, but when I read your answer I thought that this was some Black Mirror shiiiite.

Huh?

Would be nice for Apple to provide other default apps, example the phone app. We needed a really simple phone app to replace the Apple phone app.

We tried to get my 85+ mom to switch from flip phone to iPhone but it's too complicated for her. Even in guided access the phone app is too complicated, tried to map out buttons so she couldn't press anything wrong but doesn't work well enough.

She's used to a flip phone where one button is answer and one to hang up. The idea of a side button, home button, tap to answer/hang up/favorites/recents/dial/voicemail/scroll up/scroll down/peek/poke just overwhelms her. She'll press the side button to try to hang up on a call and then guided access returns to the phone app when pressing the home button returns to the phone app and not the current call.

Scrolling/tapping doesn't work well with people who have hand tremors, that's never been addressed by Apple.

So we ordered a LTE flip phone yesterday.

I was concerned about the app library initially based on the way it organizes (similar to folders).....however the fact that it puts your top 3 most used as quick access in each category made it mostly useful instead of trudging through the folders I currently have on my main single page home screen.

As I mentioned the feature to do other things while on a call has been there before. What I or anyone else is doing on the device while being in the phone is not visible to the other person.

You want to be present in the conversation and you cannot because technology is offering you a tiny bit less of a phone interface? Easy fix: hold it to your face. Done.

PS: don’t assume what I’m doing with my device, you will likely be wrong.

You can have the favourites screen only on guided access and literally use the function to disable every other feature, even the home button and or side buttons. If she is only to answer calls then don’t put anything in the favourites screen. If she is to make a few calls to people you know then just add those favourite. It’s very basic like this, but obviously she wouldn’t be able to make normal calls, if that was needed - but you could also make that an option playing around with it.
Also the features for touch allowances in Settings for people with movement or shaking problems are extremely advanced. You should play around with them more perhaps. All of the accessibility features on iPhones work well in my experience.
That said, nothing is more simple than a flip phone where everything resembles a traditional phone, and if disabling the other uses of the iPhone anyway, probably a much more wise investment.

You act like every phone call needs your immediate attention, while at the same time forgetting that the ability to be alerted instantly and accept the call just as quickly is not affected with the alert UI taking just the top portion of the screen. Most people don't use a smartphone primarily as a phone but as a general communication device. So if someone is in the middle of communicating through email, text, messenger — what have you — they don't want to be interrupted by a full-screen notification. I can appreciate being "old-school" and putting a priority on voice calling as more personal, but most don't share that opinion as they communicate with their own friends and family who are real people, with real feelings, with real things to tell you, a human being, in other words, that we are already talking to in another method.

A smaller UI for a phone call doesn't demote their importance — it realizes that the other thing you may be doing could also be important enough to need your continued attention right at the moment. And you can act on an incoming call just as quickly as you ever could so this is the best of both worlds.

I really like the new iOS 14, but I'm not able to use the wifi at work anymore after the update. Hopefully the next beta will take care that.

Knock on wood but ios 14 beta 2 (public beta 1) has been just about flawless for me...I've never seen a smoother first public beta...I know I just jinxed myself for the next beta, but until then, I love it

I have an iPhone 8 on beta 2 and really want to play with the back tap feature. However, it doesn’t appear as an option in Accessibility-Touch.

Anyone else have this issue or a suggestion as to why it doesn’t work for me?

Cheers,

Paul

first of all, not everyone appreciates an incoming phone call covering the entire screen and not giving you an option to go back to whatever you were doing until the phone stops ringing(if you don't answer, that is).
secondly, i have very good new for you - you can disable it.

Surprised only the sky go app has caused me issues the rest have worked fine so for a beta no real major issues.

Only on the 646b phone. It's more on the larger ones.

I have iOS PB 14 on my XS 512GB.

I am certain the beta took up more space initially, but right now when I check it is relatively small:

Some things cannot be addressed by a smart phone. It sounds like you discovered that yesterday.
