Hi guys,

I have absolutely no idea how this happened and I saw someone else post on facebook that this happened to him too, just wondering if there's any other people out there with the same problem. I was using the phone in bed, when I woke up it had a small crack on the top right corner in the glass. And apple is not going to believe that I didn't do it myself.. any suggestion on how to get this fixed?

I have also noticed that the black paint under the glass by the sensors have faded, it looks like the paint has been scratched away sort of. anyone else with this problem too?

Pictures would be helpful reference the black paint and sensor area. Regardless, the crack had to occur somehow. Do you have any type of AppleCare? Your Only option is to have the display replaced, as now your water resistance is compromised as well.

In my experience, Apple will replace a screen free of charge if the crack is a hairline crack. If you actually did drop it and it didn’t mysteriously appear while you were sleeping, I’d be honest. People generally are more willing to work with you if they don’t feel like you’re trying to bamboozle them.

It depends on the type of crack. A thin single crack points to stress and/or defects in the manufacturing where an impact has a wide spider web appearance with many cracks.

It looks like I dropped it, but I absolutely did not. I don't think I can talk my way out of this one..
It was hard to get the weird faded black paint from the sensors on the picture, it's really obvious in daylight..

Yikes! Really looks like you dropped it, because the corner is shattered. Not just a small hairline crack. You can actually see the crunched up glass pieces. Does the corner feel like you can cut your finger on it?

how does the metal look? any obvious nicks or scuffs as if it was dropped?

There's a small crack I can get my nail in, but it's just the glass. nothing else is damaged, the metal is fine and everything. It's just on the glass..
[doublepost=1515542590][/doublepost]I turned the exposure up in the picture, the crack is not really that obvious in person as in the picture, it was to make it more clear how it looks.

It looks to me like the phone was on a nightstand or coffee table and someone put a glass down next to it maybe just hitting the corner Without realizing it. That would also explain why there is no damage on the band only the screen.

If you didn't drop it, then you hit it on something at minimum. Especially being it's in the most obvious area in the corner where the impact is. Sometimes it doesn't take much, especially given where the glass is located.

Still looks like impact damage.

If there is no damage to the metal band it is likely a defect in the glass and not impact damage. but Apple will have to make that determination.

I might be mis-remembering, but I think I do recall posts over the years about rare cases where displays cracked without any impact damage (and were covered by Apple under warranty). If you make millions of devices like this, almost anything is going to happen at least a few times. All the customer can do is take it to a store, point out that there's no other damage, and see what they'll do. There's no harm asking.

I think it was the iPad 2

I got a crack in my 7 plus. was a small single line crack about 1/4" long. No impact point. I had never dropped it at that point. Apple replaced the screen for free. I was told as long as it doesn't spider, or theres no impact point, then its a manufacturer defect

This.

The damage shown is from impact. Guaranteed. Doesn’t mean you, OP, consciously did it, but somehow it happened.
