Hi Guys,

I have a top spec BTO machine, and i've played around with it enough over the past week and a half to know that it's incredibly fast/powerful. I'd like to run some benchmarks and answer questions for anyone who's looking at or on the fence about buying one.

Ask away!

What's your screen like? LG/Samsung and any tinting issues, dead pixels or image retention?

I fail to see how a single data point of information pertaining to the screen is of any diagnostic value whatsoever...

LG screen, very white - I checked with a black background in almost pitch black darkness last night and there is a tiny amount of backlight bleed on the bottom left and right corner when the display is at 100%, we're talking a few mm. I'm assuming this is to be expected on such a bright screen.

It doesn't deter from day to day usage, you simply can't see it under any other condition.

No image retention, no ghosting.

I had a 15" retina (mid 2012) which was returned twice for dead pixels (both samsung and lg screens weirdly enough), so far this new display has none and i'm hoping it will remain that way.

Interesting, thanks.

Geekbench 3 - 64 bit score? I've been wondering this score as I have the same model only the 512 SSD.

Thanks!

This is the MacBook Pro I plan on getting. What do you use it for mostly? What is your general feeling on this machine? How does it compare to your last machine (what specs was your last machine) How are the temps under load and normal use? What is the battery life like (under load and normal)?

i'm afraid I don't have the paid version of geekbench 3 to do the 64bit test, but if someone could suggest a free benchmark tool i'd be happy to run that.

Alternatively, here are the 32-bit results. I'm assuming these are useless!:

I use this laptop as my main computer, I'm a sound/video producer by trade and primarily use premiere, fcpx, ableton live, logic pro and various other pro a/v tools.

My last machine was last year's 2.3ghz retina, 8gb ram, 512gb ssd.

Temps under heavy usage are pretty high but nothing I haven't been used to on the old one or even cMBP's i've had in the past. I'm going to run cpu benchmarks to see how much exactly and reply on this thread about it.

Boot up time? Fastest boot up you've had? Slowest?

Has it slowed down at all, in terms of booting up, since you got it?

How long to shut down after selecting shut down from the menu?

How long from boot to opening safari?

gt750 question

I have there version with standard gt750m graphics.

The thing is, I noticed that the dedicated graphic card takes over iris pro even when I am just watching a 1080p youtube video, is this normal?

Because of the flash video, yes. That is normal. Get gfxcardstatus program to manually set it to integrated.

I just shutdown and timed it on my phone from pressing the power on, to arriving at the login screen - approx 12.42 seconds. An additional 5 seconds from entering my password to loading up the full desktop with 4 safari tabs, word, 5 finder windows, iTunes, messages and folx.

^ what he said :) I have mine set to the iris through gfxcard status manually for everything other than video editing or gaming

Can you post your iStat? When you run Geekbench, do your fans start to blare around 55 seconds into the test?

I've attached a pic of my istat menu when the fans/cpu temp reach their peak during the 64bit geekbench 3 benchmark.

it seems under heavy load, the max the fans run is around 4-4.5k rpm

Running HD (1080p) video in youtube with a few other tabs open, temps/fan speed in Celsius screenshot attached.

This is not even a moderate load for the machine, top of the case remains luke warm, fans are silent.
