I was hoping for some AMD cpu love. Especially with all of Intel’s security issues. The power/price to number crunching ratio of AMDs have been very juicy. Still the only deal killer for me is if no WiFi6.

Mac Mini - please keep headphone jack, HDMI port, a couple legacy USB ports, and make RAM replacement as easy it was on the 2012 Mac Mini. No disassembly required. Just pop off bottom and there are the RAM slots. Also don't solder hard drive.

iPhone SE2 - identical form factor (headphone jack, dedicated home button, same size) with ONLY the guts updated. Why mess with design perfection? Besides, the phablet crowd already have plenty of choices. We "iPhone classic" fans have zero options right now.

I have a 2011 MacBook Pro I’ve made last and fixed and upgraded.

The 14” might finally be decent reason to upgrade.

I love that my 2011 has lasted so long but it’s now failing in more ways not as easy to fix (like the MagSafe port, SD card and trackpad).

I'd buy a 15" Air, not sure it will ever happen though, but maybe Pros will be 14"/16" and Airs 13"/15".
Yes they have been strangely resistant to making such a machine. It's odd they would pour resources into making a niche machine like the 12" MacBook, but they won't make a mainstream consumer laptop in the most popular size format across the industry.

It’s possible you don’t have the latest firmware because Apple pulled it. For those who were upgraded, ANC was severely weakened from the original firmware. It’s been months now since they’ve attempted to fix that mistake.

My AirPod Pro firmware is 2C54. Isn't that the latest?

I won't be buying anything Apple this year, I hear the corona virus can last for weeks on a surface. Don't want to risk death over something like that.

You could just wear latex gloves and sanitize the product before using.

Lets hope for a Mac Mini with discrete graphics at least as an option (like the 2011), and a new 13/14" MBP with new CPUs (or APUs?) and, most importantly, an actual keyboard.

I got the 2018 mac mini not too long after it came out. I might be salty if it's a significant update.

I loved my 2011 13" MacBook Pro until the damn magsafe wouldn't charge the laptop. The only way it would work is if I held the power button down for 10 seconds, then plugged in the power supply while still holding down for a few more seconds before letting go lol. Then the fans would instantly run max speed. Changed the battery and worked great until it was time to charge. I'm pretty sure if you change the magsafe port it'll solve the problem, but it was too risky for me to take apart the whole computer to get to it, and the dual core processor was ass.

I think you can safely assume it won’t. Imagine if Apple started shipping devices that include that, the lawsuits would be extraordinary.

Besides, Apple never ships anything in with a product that they think they can get away with leaving out. 😏

I got mine too at launch, I won’t be salty but a refresh makes no sense. It’s barely over a year old what on earth is outdated?

Then you shouldn't be buying food and other things from the supermarkets as well, since people can sneeze on them (cans, boxes, toilet paper covers etc). Those viruses are even "fresher" than the ones Apple would send from China along with its products.

And I’m still happily useing a 2010 13” mpb! Use it every day for about 9 hours.

Interesting stuff:
15W Ryzen 5 4650U demolishes 25W i7-10710U in leaked FireStrike graphics bench: Vega 6 iGPU is 80 percent faster

What do you think, is it an option, that some of the refreshed Macs comes with AMD CPUs?

Just can’t get my head around the need for a 14” if there’s a 13.3” in the mix. 12, 14 and 16 I could see.

The 16” is my next target for sure though.

I have a 2017 13" Pro, my perfect device would be a 14" Air (w/ 16GB RAM). Prefer battery life, Touch ID and no Touch Bar over the performance of a MacBook Pro.

I'd prefer Face ID in future MacBooks over Touch ID.

If the basic MacBook (or MacBook Air) stays with 12/13" then the Pro being 14" creates a bit more differentiation between the standard and Pro lines.

Poor GPU.

I supposed so but how much can they engineer to fit in that box. Granted I only use mine for editing audio and basic other use, nothing graphic intensive, but I'm running a 4k TV, and a 1440p monitor and have zero issues. Everything looks and runs perfect

I wish they would have a dedicated graphics option for the Mac Mini.
😔

A good compromise would be a Mini with an AMD Ryzen CPU (which have much more powerful integrated graphics than Intel processors).

If you want dedicated graphics for gaming purposes, you will be better off buying the coming generation of consoles. The Xbox Series X and the PS5 will mop the floor with anything that Apple will be selling by the end of the year.

And if you need the dedicated graphics for serious work... You should purchase a serious computer that matches those needs. If you need compute power, you can buy some serious PC hardware for the money that the "big" Mac Mini sets you back. If Windows 10 is not to your liking, current Linux distributions are not even behind macOS anymore when it comes to usability. Personally, I even think that macOS has become the least user friendly of the three big desktop platforms, and it definitely has also become the one with the largest performance issues. According to former NSA security specialists - you can find the presentations on YouTube - macOS is also the least secure of the three main desktop platforms: Yes, Windows 10 is more secure out of the box than macOS. Just watch your way through all videos from the Black Hat conferences from the last couple of years.

Unless you are in dire need of macOS-only applications, which usually are exclusively written by Apple and are called Logic Pro or Final Cut Pro, it's becoming increasingly difficult to make a reasonable business case for paying the premium for using macOS. Most of those business cases would only be rehashes of out-dated marketing campaigns from Apple that hold zero water in the real world.

If you want a machine that comes with a pre-installed Unix-like-flavor, you're better off buying a machine from System 76 (which come with their own Ubuntu-based operating system called Pop!_OS) or a Dell XPS Developer Edition (which come with Ubuntu) or some machine from Tuxedo Computers in Germany. There are plenty of other vendors. Heck, if you wanted something truly exotic, you could buy a Chinese machine with a Loongson CPU (a Chinese ARM-based processor design) and, of course, a flavor of Linux on it.

But yeah, I know. Apple has the better marketing and the better graphics design...

Would be cool if they repurposed the old 'trashcan' Mac Pro design to offer a non AIO Mac desktop with dedicated graphics as an option. Like you say, don't think it's happening in the current mini design. Having said this if Intel are successful in upping their game on integrated graphics (or Apple switch to AMD or eventually ARM) it might not be necessary for most use cases.
