All I want is for every communication standard used in messaging to have a different color.
SMS - Green
MMS - Purple
iMessage - Blue
RCS - Magenta
The first time I said it I was kidding and just being a little cheeky. But the more I’ve thought about it, the more I actually like the idea. It is informative to users without having to explain the difference in the technology. Helping them set expectations. For example if I message my wife and the bubble goes green (when it should be blue) then we both know something is going on and we get it if we can’t do certain things. She doesn’t care about SSM/MMS/iMessage. but she does care and understand the information the colored bubbles convey to her and how that affects her expectations.
I think different colors make sense, but 3 is probably enough. Leave SMS/MMS green, iMessage blue and maybe some sort of an aqua green for RCS. In Google Messages SMS/MMS are light blue and RCS is a deep aqua color.

Or...and here's an insane, heretical thought...Apple could just let us choose our own colors.
What's next? Letting us put icons where we want them instead of forcing them all to snap to the hardest part of the screen to reach?
I think the obvious solution here is to let Apple make all the choices in our lives and just accept whatever they say is best. Until they get around to changing it.
Apple is grooming their customer base, 87 percent of teenagers have an iPhone. About 46 percent of all Americans. And Apple doesn't care why they care, if they care, about green and blue bubbles, as long as it sells iPhones.
