There are rumours that IPhone 13 won't have TouchID. This is showstopper for me, I was waiting to switch from Android to IPhones but that is must have for me. Can MacRumors confirm if this feature will or won't be available?

I'm confused...there hasn't been an iPhone model with TouchID since iPhone 8 (and the budget iPhone SE 2020), so why would iPhone 13 not having TouchID be a rumor? Since iPhone 11 and iPhone 12 both use FaceID, it's guaranteed that iPhone 13 will be FaceID.

Well you haven’t seen some of the comments here about AOD on the Apple Watch then. It’ll be one of the first things I turn off, after I turn off True Tone.
Ah yes just like the "Apple doesn't need a large screen phone." It will be all over how everyone magically changes their mind and not sure how they lived without it for so long.

But like I said, lots of people already don’t like AOD on the Apple Watch and turn it off. It’ll be no different on the iPhone.

There were rumors 13 will get TouchID, even macrumors wrote about it (https://www.macrumors.com/2021/03/12/iphone-13-touch-id-under-display/), this is the only feature which holds me against switch from Android to Apple. If Apple is not going to include TouchID in 13, i'll my upgrade phone to newer Samsung and keep it for 3-4 years. I just love TouchID feature and I can't imagine moving to Apple without it. SE is out of question.

Gotta be honest, there are a lot of other things I like see other than always on display. That was one of the first things I disabled when it can to Apple Watch.
Me too. I thought I'd trade the always-on display for extra battery life.

I don’t know anybody who has turned off AOD on their Apple Watch. Just because you find no use for it doesn’t mean you are speaking for everybody. Don’t see the point of turning features off personally

I can’t go a full day with it on, so I have it disabled. A lot of people do the same.

I had what sounds like an “AOD” on a Nokia 925 from like 2013. It was a Windows phone running Windows 8 mobile, and was the most awesome phone ever.

It was a long time ago. Today, many years later, my first reaction to this story is that AOD seems unnecessary. Your screen being on even when nobody is looking at it seems like a waste of energy, battery life, and at a stretch, is environmentally unfriendly.

However, I have a fuzzy memory of how I felt when I cracked the screen of my 925, then replacing it with the newer Nokia 930, which did NOT display the time or notifications unless you tapped the screen. I remember feeling like I ”downgraded” even though it was a newer device.

Maybe once you have an AOD display, you never want to go back, despite initially feeling like you don’t need it.🤷🏻‍♂️

I like the genuine  MagSafe Battery. I’m hoping someone manufactures clear MagSafe cases for Nokia phones so they will attach magnetically.

And all those die hard "apple doesn't need AOD on the iphone" will come and proclaim how it is the best thing since sliced bread and how apple invented it as well.
Literally, no one does this.

neither company invests anything. They all copy from eachother.

Apple had Apple Pay first and then Samsung came out with Samsung pay.

Apple had Apple Car Play first and then Google came out with Android Auto.

see? They copy eachother. Difference is that a company like Samsung prefers innovation and uses their user base as guinea pigs to do their R&D for them whereas Apple gives us the stuff we actually need and gives it to us refined & tested through their own dedicated first party focus groups.

This isn’t new either. We all have an understanding on how these companies work. You’re either a hater or still stuck in the 2012 Apple vs Android war which we all know who the victor was/is…

TBH I agree.... I wear my Apple Watch for me to see info, not for everyone else, therefore I'm happy the display only comes on when I raise my wrist.
This is the thing though, you’re ALWAYS going to move your wrist, so if you turn the AOD off, you’re still going to see what’s going on via when you pick your arm up towards your face.

most of the time your phone is stationary. AOD for the phone is actually something I’ve been wanting for years now.

I very much would love to have my phone away from me and I knowing what’s going on just by peeking at it without needing to touch it.

This is great for when I’m in the garage working on my car and it’s on my bench. I can get up and look over and see if I have any missed calls or texts. No needing to walk up to it, tap the daylights out of the screen to wake it up.

same when I’m In the shower. I can peek out of my shower curtain and see what’s going on without needing to reach over and tap the daylights out of the screen with wet fingers.

when I’m gaming, can leave my phone away from me, can peek over and see what’s going on. Now I don’t have to let go of the controller and tap the daylights out of the screen.

also when I’m at work, can leave the phone on my wireless charging giant mouse pad and don’t have to tap the daylights out of the screen in order to see what’s going while I’m coding.

there so much other stuff I can think of that AOD comes in clutch.

cooking, pool time, playing pool, poker night, at the movies, doing yard work. So many other scenarios where AOD will be great.

AOD is a must have. If you don’t like it then turn it off. Give us the option

I will say, if Apple doesn’t give us 120hz display & AOD I will probably leave to Samsung for a while until they can catch up.

I personally am tired of apple not giving us something so simple like AOD because most of their users are contempt & want their setup to stay boring and literally the same across different models, years in between each.

this needs to stop. Samsung users can literally sync up to any television that as a WiFi signal and use their phone on it as a Desktop computer. This is something that will take Apple years to do while iPhones are powerful and faster then their competition. So what’s the excuse? Oh wait yeah, our phones can do it, you just need to lug around an extra device to plug in to cast on it… no thanks.

I’m Pretty sure many people rant like I am, but man, enough is enough.

give us some cool stuff man. Go into Best Buy and pick up a Note 20 ultra and play around with it. That phone STOCK feels so refined and smooth. Going back to an iPhone after feels like you went from a new Audi to an old Buick.

I love my iPhone, but I feel like it’s been the same since the 6. That’s since 2014?.

Uum you see it all the time. When it's on android, the die-hards claim apple doesn't need it and once they bring it to apple devices it's the greatest thing ever. If you think that isn't the case you clearly don't look hard enough. Again it will be all over these forums if the AOD is added and how it's a "game-changer" when months ago users claimed they don't need it and its a battery drain.

You can quickly check time or if there was a miss call or sms while the phone is on the table without having to pick it up and touch it..
That’s actually very useful and Samsung had it since years ago..
Well for me its not necessary as I have a watch and notifications..and I find it as unnecessary for Apple products
and I do for samsung.

You should get the phone that best works for you. It does seem that iPhones are stagnant but
most of the Samsung stuff feels like a gimmick to ME.
I think I may upgrade my iPhone this month from 11pro to 12 pro max,, good deals right now.
Good luck with the Samsung.

Life is too short if you want that go for it.

pros will have it this year so maybe wait a month

I never thought we didn't "need" those features, I just didn't think there were significant benefits in them to offset the benefits of the platform if I were to abandon it and move to the phones that did have them. Just because I like the cruise control selector switch and speedometer on a specific model car doesn't mean I want to drive it all the time. Especially if the seats feel like they are made of barbed-wire wrapped in tortillas.
Um... turn them off????? 🤣🤣🤣🤣
