The Home Button never bothered me? At least there still was a Home Button!

They'll pry my SE with a Home Button from my cold dead hands...

I have customers that hate the new trackpads that don't click.

One has sent their MBP in for repair at least three times since purchase. They have nothing good to say about it.

One has switched to a 3rd party mouse, and complains about needing to use a desktop mouse with a $3000+ laptop to make it usable.

My father.. well, he's so ticked off that this may be his last Apple laptop at this point..

I'm kinda "meh" about it? It could be better, it could actually .. click.. and I'd be happier.

But, I don't hate it the way some of my customers do.

Apple could go back to a trackpad that actually clicks, and life would be so much calmer for me.

Sigh
Most people love the force touch trackpad it's been on MacBooks since 2015.
I love my haptic trackpad too.

There aren’t even hints of rumors about that. None of the usual crystal ball gazers like Gruber, Ming-Chi Kuo, etc, are saying anything. I think the Mac Studio is the replacement
Agreed. I really do like the design of new 24 iMac and was really interested to see a larger and more powerful version. But I think the Studio is the replacement for a 27 iMac. In fairness you can’t spec a current iMac to be as powerful as even an entry level Studio so there is that. I’ve even been pondering a Studio for myself.

But I’m going to wait to see the M3 iMac upgrade. Candidly I really like the form factor and tidiness of an AIO rather than having a separate monitor and cables snaking everywhere. It’s part of what drew me to my first iMac when back when.

A Mac Studio would require me to buy a non Apple display simply because Apple doesn’t offer a reasonably affordable 24-27 in. display. What Apple charges for the Studio and XDR displays is beyond absurd.

And as powerful as it is I find the Mac Studio to be a boring looking little box, rather like a fattened Mac Mini. It’s a very business like, no nonsense device with no joy to its design. I can’t argue its capabilities, but it’s boring to look at. And yet I still enjoy seeing and using my 2011 21.5 iMac.

To each their own, but I’m interested to see whats in store for the iMac next year.

I was never a huge fan of this on the home button. It just didn’t feel quite right. On the other hand, the solid state trackpad buttons are really great. You can barely tell they don’t move.
I had no idea my Mac track pad wasn't mechanical till I read this. Amazing.

Nod, most all had 2012-2014 MBPs before purchasing either the last Intel MBPs or new M1s..

I myself went from the late 2012 to the last Intel version. As I said, I don’t hate it, just that it could have more click to it than it does?

Like most things it’s a personal preference?

I guess we now wait to see how TSMC does with production of the 3nm variant (N3, N3E...?) of the M2 family of SoCs...?

Macs still in need of updating:
  • 24" iMac
  • Mac mini
  • 14" MacBook Pro
  • 16" MacBook Pro
  • Mac Studio
  • Mac Pro
I would love to see a bunch of releases thru Spring 2023, culminating with the release of the ASi Mac Pro at WWDC 2023...

Although, the real excitement might just be the refreshed ASi Mac Pro at WWDC 2025; featuring M3 Ultra & M3 Extreme SoCs on the N3X process...! ;^p
The only good release for the 24" iMac is a 27" iMac . . .

Because customers prefer the minimalistic look these days, especially when it comes to home theater. Slim and lighter has been the direction tech has been headed for a good while now.
Nah. It is slimmer and lighter because the internals don't require the same cooling setup. Then Apple saves a little bit on shipping and material costs. The slimmer and lighter aspects won't sell anymore of these as very few will know prior to purchase and even less will care once they install it and put it on a shelf next to their huge TV and all the other stuff on that shelf. Maybe about 1% of folks will install the smaller Apple TV behind their actual TV in a way they couldn't before and that will be nice.

Side note, does anyone make a 1 foot or shooter HDMI cord? There might be a market for something like that.

40 is .. old?
Also, why should “old” people pay good money for products that don’t work for them?
Also, when did age discrimination become so casually acceptable?
Also.. Your parents raised an *******.

If this idea of replacing the mechanical buttons by sensor switches with 3 taptic machines – this would be technical awful:

1. Everybody knows how to use sensor switches: Often you need a second or third course to get what you want
and behavior changes always with humidity conditions of finger tips.

2. Battery consumption disease of Apple iPhones will increase.

Technical know how at Apple and analysis capacities seem to decline (remember the amount of wrong decisions in laptops in mechanical topics...).

Please not the same deep sleep over 5 years as it happened then with the laptops. Please awake Mr. COOK ! :apple:👍

Please explain how you think iMacs have less offensive cabling? Anything the user does (charge keyboard, charge trackpad, attach camera card, attach mass storage, power the display, etc.) requires cables to run up in the air to the iMac display. And attaching cabling to an iMac is a PITA on most operational desk setups, so most users just leave cables dangling; ugly. With a Studio, cables can run behind the Studio at desk level then drop off the edge of the desk or into a desk access hole.

Only if one does not really use an iMac for real work can it look desktop neat and clean.

I’m trying to understand whatever I said to compel you to be insulting.

- Wifi connection to router = no cable
- Wifi connection to printer = no cable
- AIO has built-in monitor and no tower under the desk = no cable
- Bluetooth keyboard and mouse = no cables.
- iMac and printer power cables run behind the desk = no visible cables.

Neat and tidy.

This is your dream list maybe in 10 years with faster transmission standards senseful for professional usage with bis data volumes to handle without extra time – forget it 😉

This is what my setup is like currently. No, it’s not a “professional” setup, but then nowhere was that eastablished to be a criteria.
