The big Apple news this week was word that the upcoming iPadOS 16 update apparently won't be arriving alongside its counterpart update for the iPhone in September, largely due to a need to continue refining the new Stage Manager multitasking feature.

Other popular stories this week included more hints about the iPhone 14 Pro's rumored always-on display, potential design leaks for the next-generation entry-level iPad, speaker issues with the Apple Studio Display, and more, so read on for all the details on these stories and more!

Apple to Delay iPadOS 16 Launch Until October

Apple plans to delay the release of iPadOS 16 until October, instead of releasing the update in the usual timeframe of September, according to a report from Bloomberg's Mark Gurman.

iOS 16 and watchOS 9 are still expected to be released in September, with iPadOS 16 and macOS Ventura to follow in October.

Gurman said delaying the release of iPadOS 16 will allow Apple to dedicate more engineering resources towards finishing iOS 16 development, and provide Apple with more time to refine iPadOS 16's new Stage Manager multitasking feature, which has received some criticism.

Hints of iPhone 14 Pro Always-On Display May Be in Xcode 14

Rumors suggest that the upcoming iPhone 14 Pro models will feature an always-on display, similar to the Apple Watch, and hints of what that always-on display might look like are possibly hiding in plain sight in the latest beta of Apple's developer tool Xcode.

The always-on display would let users view the time and date, number of unread notifications, and iOS 16's new Lock screen widgets without having to tap to wake the screen.

Next Entry-Level iPad Rumored to Feature Flat Edges, Camera Bump, and More

Apple is expected to update its entry-level 10.2-inch iPad later this year, and newly leaked renders offer a look at what to expect from the device.

According to the renders, shared by MySmartPrice, the 10th-generation iPad could feature a design closer to that of the latest iPad mini, including flat edges and a protruding rear camera. The report also reiterated rumors of a larger display, USB-C port, 5G, and A14 chip.

Apple Acknowledges Studio Display Speaker Issues, Releases Software Update

In an internal memo to Apple Stores and Apple Authorized Service Providers, obtained by MacRumors, Apple has acknowledged that some customers may experience audio-related issues with the Studio Display's speakers, including sound unexpectedly and abruptly cutting out, audio playing at a high speed, distorted audio quality, and choppy playback.

Shortly after sending out the memo, Apple released a new Studio Display software update that appears to address the speaker issues.

Apple Adds Eight More Macs to Vintage Products List

Apple this week updated its vintage products list with eight more MacBook, MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, and iMac models released in 2015 and 2016.

Notably, the first MacBook Pro models with the Touch Bar are now classified as vintage. Apple first introduced the Touch Bar in October 2016 as part of a complete redesign of the MacBook Pro, but Apple has since dropped the feature on all models except the 13-inch MacBook Pro.

YouTubers Test macOS Ventura's Continuity Camera Feature With Belkin Mount

One of the new features coming with macOS Ventura and iOS 16 is Continuity Camera, which allows an iPhone to be used as a webcam for a Mac.

Belkin has designed a MagSafe-enabled Continuity Camera mount that allows an ‌iPhone‌ to be set up in an ideal spot on a Mac to be used as a webcam, and while the mount is not yet released, several YouTubers have been able to test it out to give us an idea of how it works.

I’m curious if the display has to be at a near 90° angle and if the phone weight would drop the screen if tilted back further.

Studio display has broken speakers, horrendous camera. What a POS Apple made they should be embarrassed! I am that I bought one!

It’s not news, only the latest Mark German rumor. I highly doubt Apple would delay the pairing of iPadOS feature by a month. If something isn’t ready it gets incorporated in a later release like Universal Control. Besides stage manger can only be run by recent M1 iPads with large amount of storage.

Rumors are news. It’s literally in the name of the website, not to mention that Bloomberg is a reputable source.

Apple has delayed the release of iPadOS before, so I don’t think it’s unreasonable for them to delay it again.

Some sites are careful enough to title the same speculation as "may be delayed". ;)

For the last several years, the tech giant has released major iPad and iPhone software updates, known as iPadOS and iOS, at the same time in September. This time around, Apple plans to put out iOS 16 during the usual period but not launch iPadOS 16 until October, said the people, who asked not to be identified because the deliberations are private.
During beta testing, the system has drawn criticism from some developers and users for its bugs, a confusing interface and lack of compatibility with most iPads.
That right there has a lot to do with Apple deciding that most iPads can't run it, so they should delay iPadOS 16 other improvements for some iPad users? That isn't very useful for majority of users out there you know. :)

Seems to be quite a few f**k ups here, heads need to roll Tim

Yes, they’re going to have to hold it back for everybody. Again, they did it with iPadOS 13 for that exact reason.

They always happen. After all, it’s just life. Tim Cook has little involvement in it. 🤷‍♂️

Ask for a replacement unit. I’ve seen a lot of people who’ve had a great experience with their Apple Studio Display. 🤷‍♂️
I agree, I bought a Studio Display and use it everyday for work, I love it. I compared other screens but just couldn't beat the overall aesthetic and build quality, I was loathed to pay that sort of money but in the end I'm glad I did. I haven't had any problems with my speakers yet, but good to know a software fix has been issued.
As for the camera, it might not be that great and it should have been better but when using in multiple meetings a day, there's been no complaints and quite frankly when at work, no one cares.

In that shot, the desk is what meets with my approval (solid wood? What type of wood?), and is what prompted me to track down this post and click on it.

Anyway, it's gorgeous.

Apple needs to delay IOS 16 as it is a complete disaster. I cannot even use Photos or Image Capture to download pics to my Mac Pro. I find this bug simply unbelievable and inexcusable and Apple seems to have no clue how to fix it from my talks with tech support.

Because I took a LOT of pictures under IOS 16 on a trip, I had no choice but to back up my iPhone to IOS 16. So there is no way for me to downgrade to IOS 15.6 without losing over 100 photos. Unacceptable Apple, completely unacceptable.

Maybe installing a beta wasn't such a good move?

Please note that since the public beta software has not yet been commercially released by Apple, it may contain errors or inaccuracies and may not function as well as commercially released software.

Thanks. It’s solid oak. I remember when I was looking for a desk I wanted solid oak, I narrowed it down to a couple but ended up with the one in the photo. It’s a great desk and I’ve been very happy with it. I have a lot of wood in my house and just love wood due to its warmth.

Is it just me that is thinking iPad OS is becoming overly complex for its limitations? Having 4 different ways to manage Windows sets the pinnacle of many other things that seam unnecessarily complex compared to others OSs such as macOS. Too idiosyncratic.

The display real state is already short … having a bar at the bottom and a bigger one the left is just what us users needed to make it better?

While on the couch I’m enjoying way more my MBP 14. Hey, can watch movies totally hands free, and browse with just one hand. Short of pen and touch yet I can do far more with it than with the iPad. This must be a testament of something … right?

Is it unacceptable though? It’s a beta release and an early one at that. You accepted the risks when you downloaded it to your device.

That’s on you for downloading beta on your main device

you should never do that. Rookie move

Amen to all of that.

Actually, I must say that I love wood as well, (due to its appearance, warmth, texture, and feel), and will always stop to admire an attractive (solid) wood desk, or dining table, or coffee table; anyway, yours is gorgeous, - I'm delighted that you have been happy with it - one can never go wrong with a solid oak desk.

Well wear.

They need to delay iOS 16 based off of the experience of one individual? 🤣

People are insisting that Apple needs to bloat iPadOS. 🤷‍♂️
True betas are not for everyone, still it’s usually minimum risk. ;)
Minimum risk? Not in an early beta!

You do know that only 2 of your posts use the term "beta". :D
I been beta testing for years, and not just Apple. As always some preparation is recommend, so you have more latitude to work around something that occurs. :)
What’s your point?

And yes, you should always prepare! :)
