Blackberry users hated the idea of a touch screen based iPhone, and now it is the norm. I suspect the same will be true. Imagine all the different ways you can interact with the keys if they could morph into anything.
That’s a very different context though where with a touch keyboard on your phone you are looking at it already and only typing with two fingers typically. I can type so much faster on a real keyboard than I can on my iPhone or iPads touch keyboard. A touch keyboard on a computer is great in a pinch, but a complete non-starter for me as a main input mechanism.
