Would be a lot cheaper if any flip phone would work today. The networks have evolved so the older flip phones might not be able to connect to the modern cell networks

I'm thinking of paying for ChatGPT just for version 4. So useful for questions related to code. I wish it were included in my Apple One subscription.

I think it’s about the time to ditch iOS and switch back to a flip phone

Good luck. With all the carping about 'Mr Apple', and 'Cookie', Apple has been able to make their products a near must have. They all (generally) work so well together that when I think about dumping all Apple products, or even just the iPhone, I realize I can't. I'm stuck at their leisure and just hope that they don't roll over on me at some point.

Imagine if a truly inept and evil CEO took over. It would be easy to drive Apple off a cliff and the cost would be beyond epic. It's not like Peloton where if they fail, hundreds of thousands of bikes would be worthless, but it's close.

Apple at least responds to (most) severe glitches and tries to keep their (current) systems and services up to date. I remember the nightmare of the Windows Phone I had, and the vendor refusing to issue updates, and stalling on supporting OS updates. Heck, how many Android phones out there are even on the third most recent OS update? I would hope it's gotten better, but the last time I heard of those stats, I was horrified. In general, everything that I need the Apple products products to do, they do and do it really well. I wish they were more focused on the operation of things than the 'look and feel', but that's important too. And sideloading is not important to me at all. I need my stuff to work, and allowing people to potentially pollute their iDevices is asking for problems, and not just stability.

But, you do you. Dump iOS. Let us know how it goes? (I've thought it would be interesting, or entertaining(?) to see someone come up with a way to replace iOS on an iPhone. The odds are stacked against that ever happening, but it would be interesting...

This kinda reminds us of cable TV addicts and the people that buy those options to enable hundreds of channels they never watch. I bet most here could pick several features IOS offers, and mostly ignore all the rest if they really had to. Thats kinda the context that some think about with iPhones offering everything you could possible need versus a basic flip phone for voice/text. Just think of the cost savings for getting a full 5G 5.8"/6.1"iPhone if it didn't need to have everything that Apple forces upon you, not to mention far less bugs. ;)

This is the most boring time in history to be an Apple fan. Yay, another incremental iPhone update. Wow, iOS 16.4. Can't wait for the revolutionary 16.5 with additional "memoji"

And let's all hold out hope for the augmented reality product that never comes, right?
Apple Car!!! Even though cars bad now. I heard a rumor of a rumor that Apple catheter is coming to a nursing home near you and it can measure steps

I would rather have a device that has more than I need, than have a device that can't do what I want it to do.

Sure, the iPhone can likely do more than I have ever want it to do, but I'm not willing to sit in a box with a device that won't HELP me, but RESTRAINS me. I mean, wow. How many people would want to go on a cruise that served hot dogs and potato salad and didn't let you get off at places they stopped for fuel? Just think of the cost savings? And a horrible trip. And bugs? Haven't seen that many, at least that effected me.

But for my parents, I really did contemplate getting them the Jitterbug phone. Partly because they tormented other family with their constant texting 'updates', and emailing odd and bizarre pictures.:rolleyes::cool: A dumb phone at that point would be a relief! (I'm just glad they didn't do that with me. I was getting enough junk from work)
