Apple Working On Shorter Siri Trigger Phrase

Apple plans to drop "Hey" from the "Hey Siri" trigger phrase within the next few years, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman. Users would simply say "Siri" followed by a command.

"While that might seem like a small change, making the switch is a technical challenge that requires a significant amount of AI training and underlying engineering work," said Gurman, in the latest edition of his newsletter.

Apple Still Has These Five Things Coming Before 2022 Ends

Apple recently indicated that its product lineup is "set" heading into the holiday shopping season, suggesting that there won't be any new Macs or other devices announced through the remainder of 2022. I don’t know about changing the iPhone name to ultra sounds meh
I really don’t like Apple’s product and marketing names lately.

Apple TV, Apple TV Plus, Apple TV app, is just confusing for even some Apple enthusiasts on the forum, so probably even worse for the non-techies. Lost count how many people on the forum made comments about not needing a new ATV because they already have ATV built into their Smart TV.

The “Pro” is overused for Apple products, and when it comes to the M1 Max Macs, it just sounds ridiculous when spoken out loud.

The iPad “Air” kind of lost its meaning.

Ultra might as well be a thing.

I am just waiting for the Mac Pro replacement, the M3 Ultra Max Pro Mac Pro….Air.

If Apple makes an iPhone Ultra it would probably have a bigger screen and use titanium. It could be totally wireless. I use my 14 Pro Max almost completely wirelessly; airdrop, wireless charging,…the only “connection“ I have is the cord to AirPods Max for ‘lossless’ when I want it.

iPhone 14 Plus should have 5 day battery life. Instead it is a compromise.

Apple could make a “mini” actually mini. Not kind-of small.

I'm liking the change to Ultra. It's in line with Apple's vision of putting out the top of the line and best possible product. I think Apple's initial vision for the Pro name was thinking the majority of customers of those devices would be actual professionals, not casual users. But almost everyone prefers Pro models to the regular ones now, and professionals might have become the minority, so the name change makes sense. I guess the only thing that is a little weird is Samsung using the Ultra name first in their phones.

One of those items is the Classical Music app, it be nice if that showed up before 2023 starts. Maybe it will be part of the next beta cycle when the current betas wrap up and go public on Dec 12th.

Have to say, this is the biggest story for Apple lately that I've seen:

If this is true (they did testing apparently) - the amount of damage to Apple's brand and bottom line is hard to estimate (with Apple getting so many Android users to shift over to iOS over the last 5 years and perceived privacy in comparison being a huge part of that).

"The suit, filed Thursday in California federal court, comes days after Gizmodo exclusively reported on research into how multiple iPhone apps send Apple analytics data, regardless of whether the iPhone Analytics privacy setting is turned on or off. The problem was spotted by two independent researchers at the software company Mysk, who found that the Apple App Store sends the company exhaustive information about nearly everything a user does in the app, despite a privacy setting, iPhone Analytics, which claims to "disable the sharing of Device Analytics altogether" when switched off." The problem persisted across Apple Music, Apple TV, Books, and Stocks.

We've all watched, with increasing uneasiness, Apple embracing the services / advertising angle hoping it doesn't lead them down the sewer hole of becoming a lower end version of Google - cause its always more profits the more you exploit the user's trust (i.e. its not going to get better - beyond the CEO having a moment and throwing it all out). The sad thing is beyond doing a ROM yourself over on an Android phone for crazy privacy, Apple was it for the normal user on this end.

Covid with production halts have hampered the introduction of innovation. Everyone that produces hardware and code has been impacted. It will take all of 2023 to bring things back to "normal" if international politics allows it to normalize.

Couldn’t agree more. I miss the days of iPhoto where a google search is easy. Now it’s called Photos. How the heck do you work with that? ‘Photos not updating’ or something similar will get you a ton of unrelated search results.

The Apple TV you mentioned is a great example. The hardware? The GUI on the table top hardware? The web version accessible in safari? The iPhone app? The Mac app? The streaming platform? The smart tv platform?

It’s convoluted to the level of idiocy in my opinion.

I want the best phone. I don't want it the size of the planet. I truly hope apple don't go "oh let's make our new top end phone this massive tank" and leave the smaller 6.1" in the dust.

I think it is sad that the 6.1” phone is now considered the “smaller” phone.

I am on the 13 Mini and feel like it is pushing the boundaries of what I consider too large for myself.
