Lets hope the reason why its taken this long is the need to rejigger Apple Silicon to better support third party components such as video cards, RAM and maybe upgradable Apple Silicon chips. Even if they charge an arm and leg for it.
I just don't see that happening anytime soon, but yeah, hopefully one day.
The upcoming MacPro does not seem to excite, it seems that they met the disadvantages of the all-in-one chip, and even so, what is the problem to upgrade the Mac Studio with a better CPU? Not that I am the client for a studio or a pro, but sometimes I really do not understand Apple.
I can't help but feel it would just make more financial sense for the company to go that route.

Apple May Not Launch New Mac Studio With M2 Ultra Chip Due to Similarity With Upcoming Mac Pro

Apple released the all-new Mac Studio desktop computer in March 2022 with M1 Max and M1 Ultra chip options, which offer impressive performance. In fact, the higher-end model with the M1 Ultra chip is the fastest Mac ever, until the Apple silicon Mac Pro arrives. Unfortunately, the Mac Studio might not be updated with an M2 Ultra chip this year, as it would make the computer too similar to the upcoming Mac Pro with the same chip. We're also hearing that a new 27-inch display with mini-LED backlighting and 120Hz ProMotion may not launch in the first quarter of this year as previously predicted.
The Mac Studio appeared at the same time the large intel iMac disappeared. It was discussed at that time Apple was using the Mac Studio as a placeholder until a Mac Pro that was rumored to be a smaller tower than the present tower and updated Mac minis appeared. There was also the possibility that the larger iMac was removed because Apple had no updated model available. Apple also didn't seem to want to offer any models using M1 Pro/Max other 14"/16"MBPs and Mac Studio which was strange?

Fast forward to now, and we see the 14"/16" MBP updated to M2 Pro/Max, the 24" iMac still using a M1 almost 2 years later, and Grumman mentioning that Mac Pro was being tested with a early versions of MacOS 13.3. So now what would happen to Mac Studio if it isn't updated and a smaller Mac Pro using M2 Ultra Soc is announced? What would happen if at the same time that MIA larger iMac is announced with M2 Pro/Max? Apple in 2023 is obviously ripe for some good desktop possibilities.

Reverse wireless charging. When Samsung first announced it, why would anyone ever use it. My iPhone battery is the most important battery in All of my technology. Will I share it, never. Will I use my iPhone to charge my Watch, EarPods, anything else, never. The iPhone is my lifeline when out and about, essential. The others are nice to have, not essential.

I don't know if I am in the minority with this.. but I really don't care for reverse wireless charging. A while back when I had a Samsung I used it once to check it out and I have never seen anyone use it. I get why it would be used in an in the pinch situation, but these same situations like camping, hiking, traveling are usually planned there for devices charged and depending how long you camp for bringing a powerbank is usually done. Any instance I can think of you can have access to a outlet/power bank and if you are stranded somewhere I would rather keep as much of my phone battery life as possible not give it to something else especially with reverse wireless charging being poor in efficiency granted with Magsafe it will be a bit better *maybe one other reason why the new Airpods have Magsafe*
I would guess you are in the minority

Gurman speculated that the Ultra model could feature additional camera improvements, a faster chip, a larger display, and perhaps a portless design without Lightning or USB-C.
I'm all for an 'Ultra' with camera improvements and a faster chip, but a "portless design" would be the dumbest choice ever. No way in hell I'd buy a phone I'd need to carry a special wireless charge puck for when I travel.

Apple needs to simplify its product lineup and naming - current naming sucks to distinguish the too many too similar products.
Agreed. Apple is going through its 1990s phase again. Too many products that cross over, too closely priced.

I’d enable voice calls on an iPad Pro 12.9 and call it the iPhone 16 Pro Max Ultra Extreme. Comes with a bigger screen and you get the added bonus of looking like the character in the Dom Jolly phone sketch.

Yup, I can see the logic in that, but maybe there are enough people who don’t share that view for Apple to still be picking away at the concept (if the rumours are correct).

One use case that I can think of that I would find quite useful is to not think of the phone with reverse wireless charging as a battery pack but as a wired charging pad. When travelling I find it frustrating that I have to carry a separate charger for my Apple Watch. If my iPhone could charge my Apple Watch then I could only carry a single charger and lightning cable and the nightly hotel room recharge procedure becomes plugging my iPhone face-down (probably on a face towel to avoid scratches) into the charger with my Watch sitting of top of it …. or at least until Apple removes the wired charging port at which point that idea presumably goes out of the window because the phone’s wireless charging connection would also need to attach to the back of the phone.

My ultimate hope is that however they do it Apple does streamline the charging experience somehow for those of us who travel with multiple devices and don’t want to carry multiple chargers (or something relatively bulky like a MagSafe Duo) with us to keep everything charged.

Maybe they’ll come up with Apple Cardboard so we can set our iPhone Ultras 3 nanometers in front of our faces. This will have us one step closer to becoming the Neuralink monkey. Except without the benefit of euthanasia: just radiation poisoning and cancer. We have to move to Canada if we want the chip out.

The cardboard won’t be recyclable, but they’ll announce a shipping program for it that uses more emissions to have it deconstructed by Daisy than we avoid by manufacturing ten of them. 📢🤡🎙️

“We’re Green to our cores, and we’ll say it til you’re Blue in the face.” 🍏

Enjoy your day today! It’s gonna be a good one filled with joy!!!! 😃🤪😜

If you ever notice someone from California griping about something, notice how they have to end their monumental hour of vitriol with a “… but it’s all good and I’m not judging!!” 😂😂😂

Reverse wireless charging is so inefficient, I doubt they will use it.
Regarding an iPhone Ultra 🤦‍♂️

Good points. However I only carry one charger, a two port 40W USB C charger. I carry a couple cables depending on the devices. Example Kindle Reader. Presently gives me two option to charge iPhone.

I hope the iPhone Ultra rumors won’t turn to be true. This would enable room for more Apple greed. Pro would get even less premium features over the standard, still asking a premium price. Who wants that? Two versions is enough. Mini made that clear.

“Gurman speculated that the Ultra model could feature additional camera improvements, a faster chip, a larger display, and perhaps a portless design without Lightning or USB-C.” Apple, take my money! 💙🤞🏻
