The 2.26 13" works fine. I don't see many things it can't do. Save the money, buy the 2.26, get some RAM and a faster/bigger drive. Hell, after you upgrade the drive, you can make the stock into a nice TM backup for $6 for an additional bonus.

But he wants a 15 incher...

is this guy SHAMBO's alter ego? Shambo said the same thing in another one of these threads. the statement is just ludacris. to generalize EVERYONE in the world and say they pic they promote the 13" because they could not afford a 15" is just silly.

many people here, me included, had no money restraints when purchasing their MBP. I initially thought the 13" would suit me best and got it, although i had set aside enough to buy a fully loaded 17" if i wanted. i ended up exchanging for a 15" which i love, but in no way was the cost EVER a factor in which one i chose.

what i think is that the people that make that statement actually regret getting a 15" and are stuck with it now and post that non sense to soothe their buyers remorse..... keep telling yourself that and you'll believe it some day.

Well I am not Ricanlegend and I still stand by what I said, people who can afford it max out their kit, be it a car, laptop, or electric-toothbrush. Ricanlegend's comments simply clarify that A LOT of other people believe this.

and btw most important , I'm not changing this laptop for a couple of years , so i want it to last at least 3-4 years , and not be out-dated after a year or two.. so what would be better worthwhile investment? , also I will change to ssd as soon as they drop in price..

If you can afford and you work with OpenGL/CL applications, I'd get the one with the 9600M. The dedicated video solution is a lot faster.

Don't we all. :p
:rolleyes::D

Just get the best laptop you can afford. That's what I did;).

yea actually i'm kinda leaning towards the 15"....
and about the "buy the best u can afford" advise , i don't think that's how things work dude , I can buy the 2.8 , but it costs wayy too much , 2099$!
I'm not planning on spending that much , since I doubt my needs from this laptop requires all these high specs , it'd be nice though to have that laptop , but it's way too much I think...
so will the 15" low end be a worthwhile investment? and will it do pretty good handling all the stuff i mentioned ? (watching hd movies , some photoshopping , multitasking...) , or the higher end one will be better?-> (extra $$$ XD)

I've read that in order to be able to work on the 9600 u have to log out or something like that , so they don't actually work together? , and I've heard it takes a lot of battery and causes heat if u keep it all the time on 9600...
that doesn't sound good....

For sure, those where the reasons I put my new 15" MBP up for sale and got the 13" MBP ... you do have to log out, but I didn't any real world speed gain on the 9600 and I do fairly intensive app's ... for the the trade off in the heat it generates it wasn't worth it for me.

I'm so glad I ended up with the 13" over the 15" ... I lost a bit of money in the transaction but it was worth it.

so guys u think I should pull the trigger for it? , will it be a WORTHWHILE INVESTMENT , because i want a good laptop , so i would last 3-4 years at least before i change it ... for that price it should i think..

Which model are you getting? The base 15", right? You can pull the trigger whenever the time is right for you. Don't wait too long though. :D Good luck on your purchase; the 15" is REAL nice;)!!!

Bigger screen. It's a preference thing :)

You're certainly right on that, which is why Apple gives us all the options in the first place. However, I rather have the more portable screen (13") and spend the extra I'd save on a 22"+ monitor. Best of both worlds.

We can sit here and play these games all day on which is better, lol. I know I sure did before I made my purchase. I did the "Well, if I'm going to get the low end 15" I might as well just spend the $200 extra and upgrade to the mid 15" version" and etc, etc. :D The only way to truly know is to go to an Apple Store and play with both models hands-on.

As in my case, the 13" with external 24" monitor made the most sense since the laptop is on my desk in clamshell mode about 99% of the time. Now, for someone who is on the go more often the 15" might make more sense to have the extra screen real estate. The 13" does a mighty fine job on it's own in that regard though.

yea i'm probably getting the low end 15" , but i just wanted to know if it was a worthwhile investment ,, like it'll last and i won't need to buy a new one after 2 years or so...

why would someone buy something they dont want just because they can afford it. makes no sense. when i bought my mustang last year i could have spent another $3000 and got a convertable. but, i dont like the look, i dont like the fact that they can crack and need replaced, and i dont like to have my head beat by the wind all the time. I had plenty of money to do it. but why would i if i did not want it. i would have went from having a $26,000 coupe that i love, to a $29,500 coupe that i hate. just because i can afford it?????seems stupid to me.

same with a mac. why would a guy that loves the 13" loves the size, the look, the way it fits on his desk, and in his bag. why would he forgoe all that and buy a 15" (a size he hates) just because it is more money and he can afford it. that is the stupidist logic i have ever heard and makes you look the same way.

I think 13" is the prefect size to use on lap, if you want a laptop or higher mobility. If you want it as a substitute of a desktop, go for the 15".

I too was torn. I have a 13" Blackbook and wanted to purchase a new MBP. I bought my wife the 13" MBP in July, and loved it. I loved the portability, the screen, etc. Easier to lay in bed and work. When it came time to get my laptop, I almost debated into getting nothing. I decided to get the 15" and had regrets immediately. It's much bigger than the 13" However, after 2 weeks with it, I no longer thought it was bigger and more cumbersome. It was more like my wife's was much smaller. If that makes sense. I love the 15".

The 15" MBP is just as portable as the 13". Get whichever one you want. After awhile, you would be happy with your choice.

plus the 9600 is an additional component which can conk out!!!! just like the 8600 .thse GPUs generate a lot of heat and more heat generally means a higher chance of failure of the hardware components..at least this is what did the 8600 in...the worst part is...the heat might screw the logic board too...i dnt know how the 9600 is...but u never know...

If you are not doin much of 'pro' stuff (like heavy video editing) or if u r not a gamer...go for the top end 13...its much more portable than the 15...it can handle the odd graphic intensive task...and invest the money u saved into a nice external screen...

heat does not shorten the life of a mac. they are designed to withstand high heat for extended periods. for it to get so hot it hurts it, it would be so hot it could not be touched.

the 8600 had a defect from the factory, the heat propetuated the defect into breaking. the heat was not the cause it was merely the means that allowed the defect to materialize.
