If you are having doubts now, I would return it.
Niggles just get worse and worse as time goes on.
It seems you cannot live without your matte screen.

I so want to like this machine, and the screen is very impressive, I do like it in controlled conditions – but I can foresee that I'll only end up using it for certain tasks, Photoshop or anything that needs a lot of horse power - and using my MBP 2008 for everything else – the idea of having to move files from one machine to the other is completely unpractical, I want it all in one place.

Return it and get a AG screen 2012, whether via the refurb store or the used market.

I already purchased an AG 2012 from refurb earlier this year, and it was returned to Apple as I really didn't like the screen; please see previous posts for details.

I know. As someone else wrote, you need to try again and hope you get a better one, as some sample variance exists.

Your other option is to stay with the retina, which doesn't seem satisfactory.

I didn't like the native resolution TBH - it made menus to small for my eyes. Colour calibration was a whole different issue which may of been resolved with a different make of screen. For the record I think the MBPr is a superior machine to the MBPc AG. The screen is superior, it is faster, lighter and has better battery life, but it has glare.

My early MBP early 2008 is battered but I never think twice about using it. If I could find a new 2.6 model I would snap it up and put in a SS drive.
