My old iPad Pro is from 2018 and has an LCD screen like the latest M4 iPad Air but with a 120hz pro motion display. So i am more used to the fluidity of the promotion display.
The 2018 iPad Pro does not have a ProMotion display. Just the old school 60Hz screen. I know because I still have one and it definitely does not have a 120Hz display.

Sounds like testing the Pro for 1-2 weeks, at home, is the way to go. Only way you can test in your specific home conditions, bed, and such. Headaches can be induced by many factors, so the store lighting does you no favors here.

One can wish Air had better features, but this is Apples way of differentiating the model ranges. Pro will always have the most/best features, but if that it the right choice for you depends on your own preference. Test at will, do 1 week with each if needed.

I tested extensively at the Apple Store, but also borrowed a friends OLED iPad Pro for a couple of days. Playing with the iPad in the environment you plan to use it in helps tremendously.

I hear what you’re saying about why Apple differentiates the Pro & Air. It’s going to be interesting if the rumors about the iPad mini 8 getting a single panel OLED later this year followed by the iPad Air next year in 2027 come true. If that happens, the difference btwn the Air & Pro will get narrower. Makes me wonder what new features the M6 iPad Pros will get next year. 🤔

I don’t know if the iPad mini 8 or M5 iPad Air will get 120hz promotion as well as the single panel oled. I imagine they would. But maybe the single panel OLED panels won’t be as bright as the tandem oled panels of the pros. Perhaps only 600 nits? So Prosumers will still probably choose the iPad Pro. For that alone. Not to mention the faster thunderbolt port.
