I haven't been in a hotel where the internet speed is tolerable. I usually stay at Starwood hotels though.

Of getting banned. I ran a torrent for a 4GB file and they suspended my account for a few hours stating it was against the wifi policy. They stated some mumbo jumbo about how my activity was against the TOS and repeated offenders would be banned permanently.

I was able to download 3.8GB before I got the message and had to finish the remaining 200MB on my tethered iPhone.

I plead the fifth on that. Also on free airport wifi. Although usually the speeds are so terrible it's not worth it, I can probably count on one hand the hotels I've stayed in where internet speeds were decent.

Yea, this. Just don't want my internet turned off on me. I am living in a hotel for the next month and thought I would ask. I read the ToS and it doesn't explicitly say anything about torrenting (at Holiday Inn Express fwiw)

After a few days in that hotel you'll realize that no matter what the ToS are the speeds are too slow to accomplish anything anyways. You'll also soon tire of the automatic pancake making machine at breakfast.
