I've looked around for a long time, but I haven't seen any program like what I want. I am going to buy a MBP sometime soon and I would like to find a program that keeps track of my TOTAL uptime. Not uptime from last shut-down or restart, the total uptime from first power on until the end. Now as I understand it there is no way for a program to look back at your old usage statistics, but I won't have that problem as I'd install it the minute everything was configured for the first time.

Even if the app just takes all of the restart-to-restart uptimes and adds them together, I'd be happy. I just don't want to do it by hand every day. I'd even settle for a script that takes the last "uptime" terminal command and adds it to a text file every time the machine reboots. I use computers a LOT every day for school and work related things, and I'm curious to find out if a new notebook would increase that number. Thanks in advance.

    One idea

    Download smartctl
    http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/23777

It will tell you the total uptime of your hdd

So if you never change your hdd, it will work (gives as power on hrs)

If you change hdds, just add the value from the hdd you had just replaced
