So Total War Attila was initially released for the Mac although Feral Interactive, who typically ports all the Total War games to the Mac, did not do this port or the Rome 2 Mac port. Creative Assembly did the ports themselves for those two titles before handling the responsibility of porting Total War games back to Feral Interactive (who has done a much better job in that respect). The Mac ports of Total War Attila and Rome 2 were 32 bit and we all know what is happened with 32 bit games on the Mac.

Earlier today I was going through my Steam library with the intention of reinstalling one of the other Total War games that I have then to my surprise Total War Attila's install button was not grayed out anymore. It had that functional green install button even though it had the 32 bit warning below which is not always accurate. So it allowed me to actually install the game when I should not be able to. And the game actually launches with a little pre-launch screen however after that the game curiously continues to run with the actual audio of the opening credits and cutscene but I don't see anything except for the Steam client. When I click on the game's icon in the dock I can hear the audio of the menu screen as if it's actually running in the background. But nothing I do can actually make me see the game if you get my meaning.

I was wondering if anybody has Total War Attila or Rome 2 and can see if they can actually install those games on a Mac because technically you shouldn't even be able to install them and get them to run even if it's just like it's in the background so you can't see anything but you can hear everything going on in the game. I know for a fact the install button has been grayed out for a very long time, probably ever since 32 bit games have been phased out for the Mac.

Is this just an anomaly or has Creative Assembly attempted to update these games for the Mac for 64 bit much like CD Projekt RED surprisingly did with the first two Witcher games for the Mac? If they have they still have work to do.

I don't own the games but there are no signs of them being 64-bit by looking at their Steam depots. Otherwise it says "macOS64". Perhaps some files are 64-bit like the launcher/installer but that would be weird. Rome 2 works well in Crossover but not Attila.

Yeah I suppose that makes sense. Good to know that Rome 2 works well in Crossover though. Thanks.
