I never had any intention of purchasing any Homepod at $350 or $300. Then my old Bose Soundlink died. I had a big graduation party coming up, didn’t want a DJ, but wanted music.

Macrumors posted about Target selling Homepods for $199 on Saturday. Of course all Targets in my area were sold out, But Best Buy had some in stock. They price matched, plus I had $40 in credits, at $160 this was a no brainer. My main concern was how the sound would fill the the large room. The guy let me play with it at Best Buy, and it was definitely loud for a large noisy store, I got a good first impression. I got it home, got everything set up, and the sound was great!

That night I brought it to the hall we were using to make sure it sounded good for the room. Unfortunately it hadn’t been updated on the software, so I couldn’t get it to play without WiFi. I went home later, updated, and brought it back early for the party. I was nervous after the first try, but after the update the family was able to Airplay their music to the HomePod. What impressed me was how 1 small speaker like this was able to fill that room with music. We had to keep it at half volume because it was too loud!! 80 people in the huge room, and the music sounded great, it wasn’t too loud or low, and the sound quality went beyond expectations. We played music from Frank Sinatra, to Rock, Country, and Rap, and it played at full quality and no distortion or obnoxious loud bass thump. Sounds was so impressively balanced across the spectrum.

After the party, I brought it home to place it on my desk replacing the Soundlink, and I am so happy with the sound. I’m also loving using it as a phone speaker as well, I work from home.

Looking up different reviews on YouTube I kept seeing people impressed by one, but blown away by 2. I went back to Best Buy yesterday to see if they would still honor the $200. Unfortunately, because the sale was over and nobody was selling it at $200 they couldn’t. They did pricematch my company discount that I get at Apple for $280. I am an elite plus member, so they pricematch retroactively for 45 days. I’m assuming Target will do the $199 again and I could ultimately get 2 Homepods for the original $349 price of one. Just a side note, today Best Buy is selling them for $249.

I set everything up, the new HomePod software needed to be updated. The original pairing was a bit glitchy. Even though I stereo paired them, they were still playing independently of each other. After unplugging and plugging them back in, everything worked PERFECT!! And as reviewed on YouTube and everything I’ve read, the sound is beyond any stereo system I’ve owned. The bass is so deep, and the quality of sound is so high. I never thought I could get something like this outside of high end headphones I’ve used. The music sucks you in.

So from having no interest to having 2 Homepods in 3 days, if your on the fence, go listen at a store and see what it’s about. The store is not the most ideal listening environment, and yet it still sounds great, at home, it is mind blowing. Keep an eye out for deals, they can be had, totally worth it.

Yep, its a great little product. I think most of the hate comes from the price and from people comparing it to a $30 echo dot. Once you get one you use it all the time.

And it’s back down to $199 at Target. Best Buy WILL match of your Targets are out of them.

I just brought my receipt, they did the pricematch which ultimately got me 2 Homepods for the price of 1 a little higher than the original cost when it was released.

Happy camper here.
