No, it's RGB. Pentile displays aren't suited to displaying computer graphics dur to inherent issues with moiré patterns and whatnot, so Apple thankfully isn't using them in any of their products... :)
The iPhone X is pentile, though the density there is high enough it's not as noticeable (you can still see it if you know what you're looking at) - I imagined the TB probably wasn't as lower density oleds now tend to stick to RGB

Oh, wow. Thanks!

Interesting, they've rotated the pixels 45 degrees. Yes, that would surely cut down on the pentile artefacting. You'd also need to do some fancy image processing to translate traditional raster graphics into this novel display technique.
I believe I also remember reading the subpixel density is slightly higher on the iPhone X panel than it is on Samsung Galaxy equivalents - that is to say there is less black space between them which causes the odd textured look to pentile displays, particularly at lower pixel densities... I couldn’t find the article again though!

I am not sure if this is the article you’re referring to, but it is an example of what you are describing

Hm, from what I've read, pentile patterning arises from that each pixel don't have a full set of RGB subpixels, and that green subpixels are like 50% of the total subpixel count of the display rather than the expected 33(.333...)%. Don't all OLEDs have these black areas, btw?
