finally got to play with a Touch at a local Apple store today.
They had an Internet AP so the WiFi worked,
and we could surf to the outside world...
Checked all my usually sites.

I'm wondering if using the browser
and having to go thru the various finger "exercises"
will get tedious after awhile ??

I mean - after going to Yahoo & Financials...

1 - zoom to make the page readable
2 - pick an area or headline
3 - go to that page
4 - zoom to make it readable

well - you get the idea...

Haha...you can always double tap the section on the page you want to zoom in to. Once you're done, double tap again and you're back to normal. Either way, you won't realize whats going on, once you start getting used to do the movements on the screen.

It's a little more tedious than a standard browser, but it's still a joy to use, and it's the best mobile browser out there in my opinion.

To be honest I felt the same way after trying Safari for the first time. Once I truly got the hang of it, it all became second nature and not tedious at all. What I still have to work on the is flicking. I still hit links and bring up new pages all by accident, but I'm working on it. :)

Oh yea I also have that problem, while trying to read this post on my iTouch I have (by accident) visted 3 other posts and just about every ad on the site - lol

I still look for mobile versions of websites....it is difficult sometimes to navigate around ads....in the end, if I have a computer available I will surf there....but I find that I am using the touch all the time in the kitchen...out in the garage etc....I don't dread it at all and am even getting use to typing.

It is tedious at the beginning (first week or so), but right now I'm flying. I type very fast on my iPod touch as well, faster than I've typed on any other mobile device.

I would have to agree with you, it is fairly tedious to browse around wth the touch. I have had the thing for a couple days now and while I do love be damn thing, I don't think it will ever completely replace my computer. Too much pinching and doube tapping etc. It is a joy to use though and by far the best mobile browser out there hands down.

This is how I like to type and get the best mileage out of typing.
Hold the touch with your middle, ring and pinky fingers then
type with your two index fingers. I can fly through posts with
the greatest of ease. As matter of fact I'm on my touch right now.
