Interesting article that I generally agree with, and regarding smartphones I really liked force touch on my iPhone 7 plus. We do have haptic touch now and ma glad for it but still think force touch was better.

As for touch on other appliances I had a very frustrating experience staying at a guest apartment in Athens recently newly equpped with a stove and microwave with touch. Very frustrating IMHO and I can imagine for automobiles it is really not a good idea.

Touch Buttons are Terrible

  • Capacitive touch buttons introduce usability issues in terms of responsiveness and lack of feedback.
  • Manufacturers seem to be overusing touch buttons despite the problems they create, like having to take your eyes off the road when changing air temperature in an EV.
  • Some companies abandoned touch for physical buttons due to issues with usability over a decade ago.
