Any ideas why I would have such hit or miss performance with Touch ID on my iPhone 6, and yet on my iPad Air 2 it works flawlessly? I even deleted and re-programmed my prints on both at exactly the same time, and I've been testing them in the same conditions. The iPhone regularly denies me but the iPad works first shot. I've even tried a factory reset on my iPhone. I do have a launch iPhone 6, but I haven't heard of any related issues to date...

Interesting you say this. I have noticed my iPad air 2 is never ever ever wrong. Always unlocks. My launch day 6 is wrong quite often... Hmm

Isn't it strange? Even if my finger is wet from a shower or doing dishes I don't run into problems with the iPad. iPhone... forget it. Not happening. WHY :(

Interesting, it works fine on my launch day 6 Plus and iPad Air 2. I'd try calling or taking it to Apple for a replacement since you have already tried reseting and that didn't work.

I have another thread on this issue. It's definitely a problem on some of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus phones.:(

I'm worried about reproducing it. Sometimes it works perfectly fine. It's so unpredictable and yet only ever with my phone. I should try my fingerprints on my wife's phone to see if it has the problem too. It's like 4 weeks older than launch.

That's what it is, unpredictable. I'm also reluctant to get a replacement. This is, after all, a minor issue. You can always log in with your four-digit password.

I'm actually having this same issue with my 6+ that I got for Christmas. I've been searching through forums trying to see if anyone was experiencing this.

My Touch ID worked perfectly for the first 4-5 days, when suddenly it wouldn't scan my finger at all. I tried making sure the sensor and my finger were both clean and dry, deleting and re-adding my fingerprint, and doing a hard reset. Nothing fixed the issue. I looked closely at my fingerprint, thinking maybe I had cut my finger, or that the skin was peeling, but nothing. All I've noticed is that if my finger has any moisture whatsoever, it won't scan. (Like even if your finger barely glimmers under a bright light, that amount of moisture keeps it from scanning.)

I had an iPhone 5s before, and never experienced any of these issues. The sensor on it always worked, dry, sweaty, dirty, or wet hands. I even scanned my finger on my fathers iPhone 5s, and it worked perfectly, tried again on my 6+, nothing... It's almost like the sensor is too sensitive.

I'm going to take mine into an Apple Store in the next week or so to see what they say/do.

Hope you can get yours fixed too,
J

Please let us know what Apple tells you and what they are willing to do about it. I suspect they will just give you a new phone.

This is the reason that Apple Pay users will be holding up the cash register line more than anyone might think.

My 5S touch ID was spotty. Now my 6 was okay with my index finger, but a pinky scan soon went wayward after having initially worked fine.

Hey Guys,

Went to the Apple Store today, and Touch ID works, hopefully it will continue working. The Apple employee who helped me first ran a diagnostics scan. The scan showed that I had 15 of the native apps crashing, he said that he had experienced this issue before. I was told it was primarily due to a bad iOS install and that it's possible my phone was like that out of the box. He said that this could be causing the Touch ID issue, but he wasn't ruling out a hardware issue, yet. He then made me do a complete reset, setting up my phone as a new iPhone, to fix the issue. I then proceeded to try using Touch ID, which failed to work for me again, even though it worked perfectly for him. He then stated that he had "never seen this before," and told me that they would replace the entire front of the screen (apparently they can't just replace the sensor.)

The repair was done in-store, took about 1 and 1/2 hours, and cost $0 due to the 1 year warranty. (Regular price $129) I came back an hour later, setup my phone again, and so far Touch ID is still working well.

Since I also had the software issue that I stated above, I kept my phone setup as a new iPhone. I just re-entered my Apple ID, downloaded apps, etc.

Hope you guys can get your phones fixed also,
Jordan
