Everyone is making a big deal over where Touch ID will be on the new iPhone, but why don’t they just put it on the back like most Android phones do? It’s a simple solution to a nonexistent problem.

All indications suggests there is no TouchID, and yes, putting it on the back was previously rumoured and discussed extensively.

FaceID sensors can easily do fingerprint scans without contact and no worries about moisture on your fingers. So if they want they could offer additional security for banking.

The interesting thing is that this has to work right out the box for apps that use TouchID for Apple Pay. It’s possible that touchID will be just holding your hand in front of your phone, and the way I have seen this work you don’t have to be completely still.

I’m not sure why nobody is considering contactless fingerprint scans, one system even read fingerprints accurately from many feet away.

I don't think that FaceID can recognize fingerprints the way that you suggest. What are you basing this assumption on?

Would be nice if they could just stick the TouchID on the side display/lock button.

Infrared and laser scanners, this is what they are using for contactless fingerprint scanners and Apple is using to scan your face.

Contactless scanners are being used now, the ones in development now can read fingerprints from distance even with motion.

Still seems rather optimistic for Apple's first go at the technology.

Disgree. There isn't much logic behind this. Accessibility would be difficult for a larger iPhone and it would be highly awkward for reaching. I don't believe Apple ever considered this as an option for Touch ID.
