I'm sorry to offend you, but if I spend $300 on a phone, it should be perfect. So what if you can't hear it? It's not supposed to happen. Besides that, I could hear it constantly. Maybe my ears are just better than yours. How do I know this isn't going to lead to an issue later down the road? The guy said it was an issue with the wiring, so for all I know, it could've eventually got worse and then I would've been out of my warranty and had to pay full price to replace it.

Your overly competitive attitude will get you hurt some day Im sure.

Nothing is perfect. Can't you deal with that?

No? Oh ok. Well, **** the earth I guess.

Whatever kid.

What's all this earth talk?

I'm all for saving the planet.

I, personally, was NOT going to turn my phone in for this issue. My phone is (was) otherwise perfect. But I am getting a replacement for a seemingly unrelated issue so it'll "fix" the ticking fingerprint scanner too, I suppose.

To me, it's not a $300 phone, it's a $1000 phone. They put an $850 hold on my CC + $100 warranty, + tax, round up -- you get about $1,000. I'd say for $1000, a consumer should get exactly what they want and paid for. If Apple did not like this, they could choose not to do business with that customer.

I may as well get mine replaced as well then lol. So I assume it's not normal then? Did they have any idea why it was happening?

I'm just worried the replacement phone may have dead pixels or whatever. My one is perfect.

He didn't really give me any specific info, and he told me he hasn't seen anyone else with this complaint. He said it probably had something to do with the wire that connects the Touch ID to the board. He said either the connector itself is messed up, or it just isn't connected right. Also, yes, he said it is not normal

Not sure if I actually heard it or it was my imagination. I think I did hear an extremely quiet buzzing noise but it is so low and my room has to be super quiet and I have to press my ears against the button lol

I can only hear it if I put my finger on then take it off then put the touch ID right next to my ear, if I try listening with my finger on the touch ID I can't hear it.

If you move your finger/thumb around the ring the clicking/buzzing seems to get a lot faster.

I can hear the ticking/clicking when I put the phone up to my ear. I have no complaints about my phone otherwise though. Can more users confirm if they hear this? OP, maybe your replacement phone does it but is less noticeable?

Try putting your ear on your laptop computer. You will hear some buzzing noises and change in frequency when the laptop is idle and when there's a load on the CPU. Some will buzz louder than others. I've had computers with super loud video card and power supply. It's coil whine.

Electronics will make noise. It becomes less of an issue as one grows older, becoming more ignorant, and loses hearing :p Ignorance really is bliss ;)

Yes ignorance is bliss I completely agree.

So I blame the OP for bringing this up and how it's going to annoy me now that I know haha.

It can be very loud if you have your phone connected to a car stereo using the headphone jack.

When my phone is connected to the cars stereo and the cars radio volume is turned up loud and I do not have music playing and I use the Touch ID the buzzing comes out of the cars speakers.

But I do not hear it when wearing the EarPods.

So I was curious enough to speak with Apple support online and was told it is normal behavior for TouchID on the 5S. It hasn't been documented for the 6/6+ since they were just released. I don't have my 5S with me so I can't verify. No sense trading in a phone for one that may have other issues.

Don't know. I've tried it with 2 5S' and none of them make those sounds. So I don't think thats true, unless others can weigh in here.

Im exchanging mine because of a dead pixel, but I won't bother for the Touch ID noise.

I can assure you my new one does not do it at all..
If it doesn't bother you then don't get it replaced

I have no idea if it's an actual issue or not.. All I know is that it is only on certain phones, and the 'genius' said it had something to do with the connection on the board

I tested out the 6 and 6+s at the store and none of them did it. I also tried my friends 5s and it didn't do it

Just to update you guys, I've just got my replacement iPhone right now.

My Touch ID feels so much smooth with the actual bezel as opposed to my old one.

And the major plus is there is no more buzzing or clicking noise with the Touch ID. So if it really bothers you then go get that replaced :)

My replacement (for an unrelated issue) should be here today (but I may be gone for delivery :( )

I tested my wife's 5s for this clicking/ticking/buzzing from touch ID and it was SILENT.

I'd like to see Apple's documentation on this to prove it's "normal". I betcha they don't have anything customer-facing about this on any model. (I'd like to be proven wrong).

Exactly this! I don't get why people on here try to write this off by saying oh it's just electronics. No it's not meant to make that sort of sound, I've got several 5S' in the household and they don't make any sounds at all.

My replacement iPhone 6 doesn't make that sound either *touch wood*

I don't know if it's the way I've added my fingerprints this time round but it feels more snappier too when unlocking with fingers.

I just got mine (replacement). I turned it on but haven't set it up yet -- still backing up my old phone. I touched the touchID on the new one with the screen on and it didn't make noise. Maybe I need to have it set up first? I'll let you know once I've restored it and re-done my fingerprints.

For what it's worth, I redid my fingerprints on my soon-to-be-returned 6 and it still made noise. I'm not sure if it's problematic, I'm fairly certain that it's not "normal", but if I hadn't had a different issue with the phone, I probably would have kept it....only because I know that I'm clumsy and would have dropped it (replacement) later on anyway.

We'll see once I get it all back up and restored.

Touch ID buzzing noise

Hey guys,

Has anybody else noticed that when you place your finger on the iPhone 6's home button and put the phone to your ear you can hear the Touch ID working, is this normal?
