Why do you need to scroll up and down so fast when you can use the mail search function to find what you are searching for?

A fabricated case for Swipegate! lol

Here comes the 100s of articles on it from every tech site...queue up the stock tanking in 3...2...1...

it's now November 9 and the iPhone 5 has been out for how long??

Sounds like a GIANT issue if it's taken them this long to figure it out ;)

I've also noticed iphone5's touch sensitivity/accuracy is less than previous iphones. It's evident when I am typing on the keyboard in portrait mode, I'd get more errors and missing characters. To be sure my finger hasn't gotten fatter or less conductive since iphone5's release, I tried the same with my 4S and 4, they all respond to typing much faster and more precise.

Yes I drank the Apple coolaid so I never bothered calling it a fault. But this incident report has confirmed my suspicion.

Same thing here...except for drinking the kool aid.

Worst of all it's a hardware problem.

And you know this because?

Perhaps we don't have absolute knowledge, but it is safe to say that:
1) The problem hasn't (yet) manifested in other models
2) The iPhone 5 introduced us to the in-cell touch display

It's extremely likely this is a hardware issue.

EDIT
That said, this really isn't a big deal.
Unless, of course, you swipe really fast from side to side ALL the time.

Fruit Ninja Gate!!!! On my way to the Apple Store to return my iPhone 5. Play Fruit Ninja was the only reason I got this phone!!!!

My, you DO live in a funny world, don't you? (Of course I fell for Game Boy, I confess)

i can definitely replicate this issue with my phone...either by diagnal swiping or straight up and down...as long as it is done quickly

..somehow i doubt i will run into this problem in real world use

Wow, when the hell was the last time anyone scrolled like that? Gimme a freakin break. People are always going to find something to bitch about with Apple products.

i noticed this when i got my phone in the system pref. I just thought i wasn't touching the button correctly.

Yes

I can recreate it on my 5, but only by swiping so fast I'm in danger of giving myself a blister...

Normal usage including fruit ninja, not an issue..

The video is nuts. Who scrolls like that? I can replicate it if I play FN in a way that hurts my finger?

If anything it's an IPS Technology issue. Then again perhaps a unit must pass a Swipe Speed Test before leaving the building

I do have occasional times though when the screen does not respond to my touch during a text, but not email?

Could be software, Scott's going away present in crappy A6 Optimization? :apple:

Yes. I see that.

Not sure the "issue" is restricted to the iPhone 5 and 5th Gen. iPod Touch nor to diagonal swipes. I've had.. quirks.. with the Multi-touch on my 4th Gen. iPad, yes when playing Fruit Ninja, but also Infinity Blade. Then again it could be unrelated. Not going to freak out over it though :D Hoping it is something that can be addressed in iOS 6.1

Seriously?

Who uses their phone like this? Who expects the screen to be able to keep up with that kind of movement? Also, what was the guy doing to his phone when he "discovered" this? Get a life, dude.

What if it's the accidental touch feature activating when you touch the edges as you scroll up and down/diagonally?
I was about to suggest the same thing. I agree with you that is exactly what's happening. It just needs to be tweaked a bit more. I suppose the accidental touch feature could be avoided if a fast swipe is coming from center is detected. Someone please open a support ticket to Apple.

I've been having issues selecting text on my iPhone 5. Tapping words to select them (usually misspelled or Siri corrections) doesn't do anything at all or sometimes places the cursor on the other side of the screen. There's no rhyme or reason to it which is what makes it obvious that something is wrong.

I've also had issues with the keyboard in general. Even when I'm absolutely certain I landed on a key it'll select one in the general vicinity instead. I never had that issue on an iPhone 4. It's also very sporadic.

I'm glad someone's finally found something that points to a screen issue. Just confirms I'm not going crazy.

Another reason for me not to get the new iPhone... ;)

With this and the Maps I'll stick with my 3Gs and iOS5

I've had it once

I was in a rush trying to get my phone to work (bad SIM from AT&T, it seems. The guy, when I finally got served after an hour, asked me what ccid or whatever I had, so I had to find it by scrolling rapidly, four or five times, slightly diagonally, and it froze, solid. Couldn't get it out of the crashed state -- I suspected it was a software crash. The physical button got me out of the System Preferences and I relaunched.

Degree of annoyance? Never had it since. AT&Ts crummy SIM card and their lack of an LTE tower in my part of the city are way more annoying. I still haven't experienced any LTE speeds. I love the phone, in my area Apple Maps is pretty cool, when I go to an unfamiliar place it hasn't lost me yet. Oh, and I can use FaceTime over cellular, but only if I leave Unlimited. I very seldom go over my time, and I got my first warning of slowdown last month, though never a slowdown. What they want is to ream you on "over the top" fees. They'll give you FaceTime, but you'll pay for it all.

What a deal breaker.

Apple should really spend less time designing and engineering their amazing products to make sure glaring bugs like this don't happen.

Damn you for rushing out to buy it!

The moral of the tale?

Post-Jobs Apple are rushing out stuff that Steve would never have approved of or agreed on and are cashing in through greed and laziness.

Ipad Mini? Low res screen and slow processor What's that all about?

IPad 4? Hi res screen and faster processor? What's that all about a.

Ah...I see what you're doing now...we just buy the reviewed model six months later. Simple!

Remember folks... Don't buy the first PJ (Post Jobs) hardware release. Always the S model or the updated one six months later. Easy!

Hope this has been of some help :)

yah - ill be holding onto my ipad 3 for a while - the upgrade cycles of every year are dying IMO

They should probably look at fixing this! Navigating the OS is one thing, that's usually not too urgent. But this could ruin some games.
