just got my new iPad mini 6 and am loving the new aspect ratio which is both better for reading books on kindle and for videos(smaller black bars).
But above all, it has touch/tap to wake and for this alone it’s worth an upgrade for me!
PS: yes, there is jelly scrolling and it can be annoying for some. I’ve decided to ignore it.

Agreed. As long as you use the device the way it was intended you will rarely notice the “jelly”. I’ve been using mine way too much. Can’t seem to place it down! The touch to wake is responsive and haven’t had a hiccup. Not one. I do have to remind myself that it is touch to wake not Face ID.

iPad mini 6 is not intended to be used in portrait mode? 🤨

I mean I notice jelly scrolling every time I use it with Safari in portrait mode. Very distracting but not a dealbreaker for me so far.

I was about to start a new post to see if anyone has issue with the touch to wake feature! it takes multiple touch (around 5) times before my iPad mini register the touch to wake. Sometimes i even hit the screen quite hard and nothing happens. Am I the only one with this issue? If so do you guys think it is a software or hardware issue?

I’ll try to get it on video and post it to show what I mean.

Here you go, this is getting frustrating.

That’s so weird. I don’t have that issue. I wonder if it’s the screen protector? I have a screen protector on my but never had an issue. Always responsive. Have you tried without the screen protector? I know it would be a pain to remove and test so totally understand if you don’t. You may want to check out teh reviews for the screen protector. I went with one made by Apiker.

Something definitely wrong here. Either defective, or screen protector is interfering.
My Mini 6 wakes almost immediately (~1/2 second delay) and infallibly on the slightest touch. Exactly the same as my iPhone 11.

Note that hardness of the touch is (almost) irrelevant for a capacitive touchscreen. The screen senses the change in capacitance due to something conductive locally disrupting the electrical charge. Does it still do it if your fingers are slightly damp (more conductive)? A screen protector may be insulating your finger from the screen.

Make sure you don't have some sort of touch accommodation enabled in Accessibility settings

Touch to wake doesn't work that well for me either, but since I have touch ID configured, it's just as easy to press the power button and leave my finger on it long enough to validate.

I have no screen protector and touch to wake doesn't work well.

I agree! I just got my mini 6 yesterday and love the Touch ID. Works so much better than the old iPhones that had Touch ID.
Ya know I really prefer Touch ID on the iPad. I find I usually enter my password on my iPad Pro since the angle isn’t correct. With Touch ID I now have a long alfranumeric password since I never have to enter it. Not so much with the iPad Pro.

Only on the iPad mini 6, or on all touchscreens?

Just the Mini 6. That's my only iOS15 device and I think that's related somehow. (less sensitive?) Though it's entirely possible for me to be a bit zombie fingered, it certainly wouldn't be a surprise that I was marginal, as I have other problems with my hands and fingers.

I have exactly the same issue. No issues with tap to wake on any of my other devices but it takes multiple taps on my Mini 6.

I might have to give it a try and remove the screen protector. It is odd because it doesn’t do it every time… so i’m not sure how the screen protector can cause this issue only 1 out of 5 times 🤷🏻‍♂️

The weird thing is that the iPad seems responsive after waking up the first time. The issue occurs when i haven’t used the iPad for some time (maybe 10 minutes or more) it will take multiple taps to wake but then if I try immediately after it works fine.

I've had my mini 6 about a month now and also have the same tap to wake issues as described above. Very aggravating. Not sure if the Bersem Paperfeel screen protector is the cause and prefer not to remove it to verify at this time.

I also have the Paperfeel screen protector but I do not notice the tap to wake issues. It could be that I just turned it off and tapped to wake it again. Maybe I need to check for how responsive tap to wake is tomorrow morning. I do recall having to slide my finger across the screen at times to wake the mini. Perhaps the problem did not bother me as much.

Yeah same here screen isn’t as responsive as all my other devices, takes a few taps before it wakes, might be a software issue maybe??

I have a spigen screen protector on, never tried it without though.

Either that or apple have cheaped out quite a bit on the display.
