While I really dislike the lack of tactile ESC, as a vi user, there is other behaviors that I dislike too. If I am reading a pdf, one page at a time, every time I scroll to the next page using the trackpad, it wakes up the touchbar, even though I am not using it, only to turn off again after the fixed delay. When it turns off, it’s like a visual interrupt after I am reading the new page. That’s annoying, it takes my attention from what I am reading.
I did look into increasing the delay, but the script didn’t work, and that doesn’t entirely solve the problem just makes it less frequent. If the delay is too long, it can cause burn in.
Any ideas? Besides buying the old 2017 non Touch Bar? Can there be a “tap to activate touchbar” option? I don’t want tapping the trackpad to turn it on. I’m thinking of getting a cloth to cover it up while I’m on “reading” mode.
