Do you have access to the beta to try it and see if you get the same behavior as I do? Mine wakes up instantly from lock, no need to ever close the screen. I put it on immediately, because I had grown so accustomed to having night shift come on a Sunset, that I found the normal blue/white screen color shocking at night. Night shift is my favorite feature of that build.

Edit: Otherwise do you have access to an Apple Store where they will allow you to experience the with the behavior of their floor models?

I use my MBP extensively each day, I really cannot afford beta software or dealing with any sorts of bugs or errors. Any ideas on when it will be released to the public then?

I only have immediate access to electronic retailers with dedicated Apple sections. Most of them won't have the Touch Bar models on display since they are so in high demand and even if they did, they probably won't be the 15" or with the latest software. It is worth a try, though.

I'm just confused as to why some people in here can unlock their units without clicking and some can't. I'm running 10.12.3, so if it isn't a software update that causes it, then it must either be a setting or hardware related. Maybe it depends on when the unit was manufactured, if Apple made some minor changes along the way. I just doubt it.

I am running 10.12.3. All I have to do to unlock or wake my computer is place my finger on the touchID button. I don't press anything at all.

I can do that as well for the first minute or so after locking the device. Waiting for a few minutes, I will have to wake the device by clicking first, after which the TouchID will respond. So did you try waiting?

I really appreciate your help, guys!

I hear ya, though it does seem to be stable, which is why I went ahead and put it on this one as well, and not just my little '13", that I normally use for that. But your not wrong in the thinking that it is always a crap shoot, especially if you haven't had the opportunity to try it out on a couple different machines prior. My saying it is stable for me, also in no way guarantees that you will have the same experience with your applications. Long story short, I understand what you're saying. As far as release date, I don't think it's far off, but I don't know if you are up against a return window, or just looking to get it solved.

Furthermore, it appears that others are having the same behavior with the current version, that I am with the beta, in that touching the TouchID pad, wakes up the computer from lock and passes it through the lock screen to wake. So maybe the beta is not the difference maker here.

If you do get the opportunity to try another on the floor and it behaves as you expect it to, maybe that at least opens up dialog with the techs as to why your unit is not?
