I'll give praises to Apple ... they sure know their security on new Mac's

Perhaps i've never been done this road before, but on my new MBA (2019), this is the first time i choose to third-party USB-C to USB charging cable.. Reason being i got used to charging via USB, but for some reason on my old Mac i always used Apple charger, this is the first time i decided to opt for third party cable from Apple..

However, i ran into a problem: TouchID no longer works with cable connected, even unlocking Mac doesn't work, i must enter password.... Is this a security feature??, as i did by the cable on the Apple Store, so my thought Apple wouldn't be selling it if it was not certified one.

I reset SMC/PRAM and still Touch ID didn't work, until i unplugged, so its defuinatly due to cable.. Perhaps the issue was always there, i just never knew till now.

The cable i got was this one: https://www.apple.com/au/shop/produ...29f13af2d0abd38a74c705d4a3fec5826cc467439c646

What device are you charging with that cable? Your MBA has only USB-C charging ports, right? So I'm assuming the USB-C end of that cable is plugged into your MBA. But what device are you charing that accepts a USB-A type connector (the larger, rectangular shaped one)? Seems like nearly all devices use USB-C or micro-USB ports for charging. Have you tried unplugging the device you're charging but leaving the cable itself attached to the MBA? Have you tried using another charging cable? Also, have you tried the cable in BOTH USB-C ports on your MBA?

I'm charging MacBook AIr (2019), It have USB-C yes... Its a USB-C cable to Mac and USB_A at the other end to plug into stand... I have one of those power that has built in usb ports.

Its only the cable because if i use Apple charger, TouchID work on Mac

I thought in the same kind of way third party cables on iphones may not work and display "Battery not charging" or other issues may arise, i figured Apple did the same here with Mac...

Not sure if cable is defective and I should get another third party cable just to test or what.. The reason why i choose to use this over power brick is i need longer cable. The 1m cable that Apple provides to power brick is not long enough..

and for even more length:

I don't think I've ever heard of someone charging their MacBook the way you're describing (not using the included AC adapter). That could very well be causing issues. So I'd suggest using the included AC adapter along with the cables listed above for extra length/reach.

MBP 2021 16" does the same thing. If my MagSafe is plugged into my MBP, it will not unlock with TouchID until I unplug it. SO ANNOYING.

I'm not sure if this will help anyone but I have this same thing with my m1 mba and it seems to have something to do with grounding and how TouchID is activated. If I make contact with the metal case by resting my palm below the keyboard while using TouchID, it will recognize the input. When I just float my hand while using TouchID, it doesn't appear to recognize that I'm touching it at all.
