I've received quiet a few pop ups for system preference authorizations or app install where TouchID doesn't prompt and I have to manually enter my password. Anyone know if this is something that the App installers have to be designed to do (which I doubt as I've had some older versions of software install and prompt for TouchID).

I noticed the same thing today setting up my 13 TB. There must be some specific API call that triggers it. I saw older software request a fingerprint and newer software not request it

Some security-related system preferences will not allow you to use fingerprint for authorization. That's done for security reasons obviously. The same way iPhone requires you to enter password for some security-related settings like turning off Find My iPhone, signing out of iCloud, updating iOS, adding fingerprints, resetting device, etc.
