Apple News is providing Live Activities support for the 2024 U.S. presidential election, allowing iPhone and iPad users to track electoral results in real time directly from their Lock Screen.

The feature is rolling out for U.S. users over the course of Election Day, November 5, providing continuous updates of the electoral count. So if you're interested, you don't need to repeatedly check news websites or unlock your device.

If you have an iPhone 14 Pro or later model running iOS 16.1 or newer, or an iPad running iPadOS 17 or later, you can activate the feature through the Apple News app. Setting it up in advance ensures you won't miss any updates when coverage begins. Open the Apple News app and tap the prominent "Follow Live" button when prompted.

When active, the Live Activity will appear as an interactive widget on your Lock Screen – you can quickly access detailed coverage with a tap. For iPhone 14 Pro and newer models, updates will also be visible in the Dynamic Island at the top of the display, even if you're doing something else on your iPhone.

Note: Due to the political or social nature of the discussion regarding this topic, the discussion thread is located in our Political News forum. All forum members and site visitors are welcome to read and follow the thread, but posting is limited to forum members with at least 100 posts.

Helpful for those who will use this but I’ll be busy doing anything other than following the election. I already voted and my following the election won't change anything. That means I will ignore it from here on out. I might as well do something more productive — like stare at a blank wall, or play a game, or go for a walk.

At least this election will be over within the next few years.

I just want the unsolicited, spam texts to stop. I am "swipe left, delete and report junk'ing" in my sleep!

Hopefully that comes to an abrupt halt today! I got a couple of texts from my party of choice giving me the address of my precinct. Ugh.

Hahah, absolutely not! I don't need this kind of stress in my life and there is nothing I can do at this point.

After work today (230ish), I'll be logging off and not using the internet, my phone, nor watching tv/streaming until tomorrow morning. I'll do a nice trail run, re-hang the gutters on my barn and my wife wants to transplant some blueberry bushes.

Just think, TOMORROW we wake up and the endless bombardments of political ads/spam/TV/social/Radio are behind us for about 1.5 years or so. 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉

And far more important than who gets to veto is who controls the legislative branch where just about anything to be done originates. Yes, the Pres. has "executive order" powers but most anything & everything to actually occur in America generally starts in the House and is refined/evolved in the Senate... and then the Pres. can either veto or not veto.

Get the Pres right- whatever you think "right" is- but the legislative election wrong, and the consequences can be just as bad- or worse- than whatever you can imagine will come from the election of either Presidential candidate.

Hopefully, people vote(d) wisely for their representatives and senators... vs. being towards entirely focused on a Pres. Hopefully, when each voter faces/faced actually filling in those little circles, they voted for the best PERSON for each job vs. just blindly voting party affiliation across the board.
