What a hoax this built-in tracking is. It never ever recognised a number I’ve entered. Maybe it’s one of those things that are disabled for us EU citizens.

I've tried it and it does work, unless the flight was cancelled. When you've saved a flight number in the Notes app and probably also in Messages, it does need the full name of the airline somewhere in the text to make iOS recognise flight codes and make it a link to the tracker screen. Unfortunately, it's impossible to use the Live Activity option since most European flights are alliances with several operators and their own codes, which apparently iOS can't deal with.

However, it's less problematic when the airline gives a digital flight ticket that goes into Apple Wallet. Then it is possible to track any changes, but it highly relies on the airline providing quick and accurate data, which often doesn't work. You'd better watch the info screens in the hall than the iPhone or whatever smart phone.
