I'm looking for an app that can track any changes made to my system after installing apps and ideally enable such changes to be rolled back.

Is there an app that can do this and do it well?

Most software made for Apple is entirely self contained, which is why you can just drag and drop most installs straight from the disk image to the Applications folder. Most others have uninstall programs.

There are tools out there that i guess kind of do what you want, but all the programs that install by drag'n'drop also uninstall just as clean by dragging them to the trashcan.

One of the main points of OSX is that software developed for it is supposed to be entirely self contained. There aren't .dll files, or other crap trashing up the system like on Windows.

In most cases that's true but I've seen quite a few apps that leave behind files in the various System / Library folders.

I found a couple of open source apps that track changes but none that allow you to roll them back (though it can be done manually). I need the function for a project I'm working on and hoped there was something that would help save some time.
