    Hey guys,

Having issues using track my iphone on mobileme. Is it down for you guys?

I'm getting this error: "Find My iPhone is unavailable due to a connection error".

    Just worked for me.

did you actually lose your phone or are you just testing it? Hopefully just testing it.

Testing ;) Still doesn't work for me. Very strange.

edit- just to clarify, do I need the app installed on the device?

If you mean the "Find my iPhone" app on the iPhone, then I believe the answer is yes. I have it on mine and have no problem, it even shows roughly where in the house the iPhone is.

You don't need to install the app. The app is merely provided to be installed on device Y so the user can log in and track device X. In order to track device X, you must set up Find My iPhone under General --> Mail --> MobileMe (Find My iPhone is a free feature now).

Just a note, the Free Find my iPhone introduced by 4.2.1 only applies to the iPhone 4 and iPad (and maybe iPod Touch 4, but I'm not sure)

You have to activate it on the device.

The app is so you can locate another device that has it
